The Yamaha bLU cRU Road Racers Are Ready To Roll Tide At Barber Motorsports Park During This Weekend’s Championship of Alabama
Cypress, CA – September 13, 2017 – The final round of the 2017 MotoAmerica AMA/FIM North American Road Racing Championship is this weekend at Barber Motorsports Park near Birmingham, Alabama, and the Yamaha bLU cRU teams are ready to race for wins and wrap up a MotoAmerica Championship on Barber’s 2.38-mile, 17-turn road course.
Monster Energy/Yamalube/Yamaha Factory Racing: Hayes, Herrin…And Beaubier!
Four-time AMA Superbike Champion Josh Hayes considers Barber Motorsports Park to be one of his home tracks, since it’s located only a few hours’ drive from where the “Mississippi Madman” grew up in Gulfport, Mississippi. The southern charm and hospitality of the ‘Bama fans make him feel right at home.
Hayes commented, “Barber is a track that’s close to where I grew up, and it’s also where I won my first AMA professional road racing championship, so it’s a special place to me. My family and a lot of my friends will be there, too. It’s a fun track to race at, and with the museum, it’s a fantastic place to finish out the season.”
Josh Herrin also considers Barber Motorsports Park to be a home track for him, and the Dublin, Georgia, native has a lot of laps under his belt at the facility, which is also located a few hours’ drive from where he grew up.
“Barber has always been a good track for me,” said Herrin. “And, after racing last weekend in New Jersey and getting to know my #2 Monster Energy/Yamalube/Yamaha Factory RacingYZF-R1 Superbike, I’m going to change my mindset a little bit. My plan is to go to Barber and have some fun riding the bike. I want to get back to why I started racing Yamaha motorcycles to begin with, and that’s to have fun, go fast, and remember that I’ve got the best job in the world!”
Two-time MotoAmerica Superbike Champion Cameron Beaubier has had successful surgery to repair his injured shoulder, and he’ll be at Barber Motorsports Park all weekend long to support his team, cheer on Hayes and Herrin, and meet with fans.
“I’m really looking forward to being back at the track this weekend at Barber,” Cameron said. I’m bummed that I can’t finish out the season, but it’ll be nice just to be there supporting my team, all the Yamaha riders, and also see all the fans who come to this event!”
Superbike Superpole (Qualifying) is on Saturday at 11:30 AM Central, Superbike Race 1 will go green on Saturday at 3:30 PM Central, and Superbike Race 2 is on Sunday at 3:30 PM Central.
Monster Energy/Yamalube/Yamaha Extended Service/Graves/Yamaha: Gerloff & Beach
For defending MotoAmerica Supersport Champion Garrett Gerloff and his teammate, 2015 MotoAmerica Supersport Champion JD Beach, their season-long battle for the 2017 title comes down to this final weekend in Alabama.
Based on Championship points still available, Garrett and JD are the only riders who can win the title and, currently, Garrett has a 46-point lead over JD coming into Barber.
Garrett said, “Barber is a really special place. Not only is it as picturesque and well-groomed as a golf course, but it was the first track I ever visited to watch any type of road race, it was the first track I ever got a podium at in the ‘mini’ class, and it’s the place I love to visit the most every year! I feel like I’ve achieved a lot of milestones in my racing career at Barber Motorsports Park, and to have the opportunity to fight for another Championship at Barber will be another memory that I can take with me from this racetrack.”
JD commented, “Wow, I can’t believe the season is already coming to an end! It’s been a lot of fun riding and developing the new R6. We found what we’ve been missing with setup during the NJMP weekend, so I’m really hoping what we learned will transfer over to Barber and we can finish the year out strong and give my crew the results they work so hard for.”
Supersport Qualifying at NJMP is Saturday at 9:20 AM Central, Supersport Race 1 is scheduled for Saturday at 2:25 PM Central, and Supersport Race 2 will go green on Sunday at 2:25 PM Central.

Josh Hayes, Josh Herrin, Cameron, Garrett, and JD will be available for autographs at their Team Transporters during the Dunlop Paddock Autograph Session on Saturday from 12:45 to 1:45 PM, and then, again on Sunday during the Dunlop Hot Pit Walk & Autograph Session on pit lane from 12:40 to 1:30 PM.
