RANDY MAMOLA TO TEST EGO CORSA’S SKILLS IN BRNO’S DEMO LAP

The short summer break for the FIM MotoGP™ World Championship is over, and the Ego Corsa is chomping at the bit to return to action as the series heads to Brno’s Automotodrom for the tenth event of the season. For what has become a pleasant and exciting tradition this year – on the road to the first-ever edition of the FIM Enel MotoE™ World Cup – the all-electric superbike machine by Energica will be ridden on Sunday’s pre-MotoGP race demo lap by a motorcycle racing legend. In this case, we are talking about one rider who really left a big mark all the way across the ‘80s and up to the early ‘90s: Randy Mamola.

In his 13 years of racing in the then-premier class of Grand Prix motorcycle racing – the two stroke 500cc category – Mamola has amassed 13 wins and 54 podiums, riding for four different manufacturers and taking all of them onto the podium at least once. He was four times runner-up in the series and among the protagonists of what was a superb and spectacular era of motorcycle racing. At 58 years of age, the charismatic American is still actively involved within the MotoGP paddock with many roles, and he is now looking forward to trying the Ego Corsa around the 5.4km (3.6-mile) fast-flowing, technical Brno circuit.

“I’ve seen the Ego Corsa on track in a couple of occasions” says Randy Mamola. “One time I was at the Barcelona Grand Prix and I had to go up on a stage, and on the back of it there was the straight between turns nine and ten. Alex Crivillé was doing his test run on Friday: in the break between music, I hear this loud zing, turned around and thought ‘whatever that is, it must be really fast!’. You could see that the acceleration of the Ego Corsa was quite impressive. When Dorna asked me to give it a go, I thought it was a great opportunity, so it’ll be very interesting to try it out!”

The tenth demo lap of the year will begin at 13:20 local time (GMT +2) on Sunday 5 August at the Automotodrom Brno.
