GABRIEL MARTÍNEZ-ABREGO CONFIRMED AS A MOTO3 WILD CARD ENTRY FOR THE AUSTIN GRAND PRIX OF THE AMERICAS

San Antonio, Texas. March 22nd, 2017. Gabriel Martinez-Abrego has been confirmed as a Moto3 Wild Card entry for the Red Bull Grand Prix of the Americas to be held on Sunday, April 23rd at the Circuit of the Américas in Austin, Texas. Last season ‘Gabo’ made history by becoming the first Mexican rider to compete in a Grand Prix event at the MotoGP World Championship where he also participated as a Wild Card entry in the Moto3 race of the Aragon Grand Prix.

Austin’s GP race will be the culmination of this year’s pre season for Gabriel. A week later he will take part in the first race of the Moto3 Junior World Championship where this year, like in 2016, will compete as the Motomex Team Moto3 rider. The positive and continuous development of the Mexican rider in the Moto3 Junior Championship has given him the opportunity to compete with the fastest riders in the World Championship Series placing the Mexican motorcycle industry and Texas racing community in the highest level of competition in the international scene.

The young rider is highly motivated to compete in what he considers his home GP as he is a Texas resident and track location is a close distance to Monterrey, México where he was born and where he spent his childhood. Racing in Europe for the past two years, far from friends and family, this will be a very special occasion that will allow him to enjoy the warmth of Mexico and Texas friends and family that are not present when competing in the old continent.

‘Gabo’ will ride this racing season aboard a RC250GP KTM Factory Moto3, like the one that won the 2016 Moto3 World Championship. The pre-season testing on the Austrian made motorcycle have been very positive so far, allowing him to continue improving and evolving every time he rides the new motorcycle. This progression presents the Motomex Team Moto3 structure with motivation, facing the season ahead with good results expectations for ‘Gabo’, the team and the racin motorcycle community in México and Texas.

Gabriel ´Gabo´ Martínez-Abrego: “I am extremely happy and motivated for this race in my ‘home track’. I thank Dorna, FIM and IRTA for allowing me to enter as a Moto3 Wild Card and giving me this great opportunity. I am happy with my new team and feel strong both physically and technically, and I will do my best effort to obtain a positive result accordingly to the goals we are establishing for this race “.

‘Gabo´ has practice only once at the Circuit of the Americas aboard his brother’s Javier Kawasaki Ninja ZX6R Superstock bike and will have the opportunity to test his Moto3 bike in COTA before race weekend.

Javier Martínez-Abrego, Team’s Managing Director: “This is a very important year for Gabriel, and thanks’ to our sponsors we’ll be able to provide him with all necessary resources to continue his positive development towards the goal of placing him in a Moto3 World Championship team in the 2018 race season. He will participate this year in the highly competitive FIM CEV Moto3 Junior World Championship and we’ll do our best to request additional Wild Card entries as allowed by Dorna & IRTA”.

The Texas resident rider spends most of his season days living in Spain where professionals in charge set a specific program for him. His activities includes physical and technical training and often practice on his Motard and MiniGP bikes alongside 2016 Moto3 World Champion Brad Binder and his brother Darryn, also a Moto3 rider.

Team Motomex Moto3 is a Mexican structure lead by Gabriel’s father whom has been involved in the Motorcycle Industry and Motorcycle Racing Community for over 25 years. The team is based in Altea, Spain and former 500 GP & World Superbike rider Juan Bautista Borja is the Team Manager. Spanish engineers Borja Gutierrez and Ivan Trevor complete the technical staff in the team’s structure.

The team is thankful to Grupo Motomex for being the foundation on this project. Motos Izuka, Formex Swiss Watches, Motul Lubricants and México City’s Power Ride dealership are alongside Motomex to make this program possible. Borja Sport Team, KTM Racing, Alpinestars and AGV Helmets provide technical support on this program.
