Maverick Vinales was quickest during FIM MotoGP World Championship practice Friday morning at Mugello, in Italy. Riding his factory Aprilia RS-GP on Michelin control tires, the Spanish star lapped the 3.2-mile (5.2 km) track in 1:46.140 to lead the field of 24 riders.

Armed with data from a recent private test at the track, Fabio Quartararo recorded the second-best lap time in the session, a 1:46.328 on his Monster Energy Yamaha YZR-M1.

Franco Morbidelli was third overall and the top Ducati rider with a 1:46.428 on his Prima Pramac Racing Ducati Desmosedici.

Rookie sensation Pedro Acosta finished fourth with a 1:46.459 in spite of crashing his Red Bull GASGAS Tech3 machine late in the session.

Morbidelli’s teammate Jorge Martin, the current World Championship point leader, rounded out the top five with a 1:46.587.

The top 15 riders in the practice were separated by less than one second.
