After a spectacular revival in 2008, AMA Pro Grand National Championship motorcycle racing returns to the Indiana State Fairgrounds Saturday night, August 29, in conjunction with the Red Bull Indianapolis GP MotoGP weekend. (INDIANAPOLIS) Advance sale discount tickets are now on sale for the return of the Lucas Oil Indy Mile AMA Pro Flat Track Grand National on the legendary one-mile dirt oval at the Indiana State Fairgrounds, 1202 East 38th St. in Indianapolis, Indiana. The event, which was revived in spectacular fashion in 2008 after a long hiatus, will again be held in conjunction with the Red Bull Indianapolis GP weekend. The Lucas Oil Indy Mile AMA Pro Flat Track Grand National, will be on Saturday, August 29, 2009 from 2:00pm to 10:00pm. The Lucas Oil Indy Mile AMA Pro Flat Track Grand National thrilled a record-breaking crowd in 2008 when it returned after nine years. Fans saw a fantastic duel to the finish between 2008 GNC Twins champ Kenny Coolbeth and former champ Chris Carr. In the end, Carr edged Coolbeth for the victory by a mere 0.03 seconds. Undoubtedly, one of the keys to the success of the return of the “crown jewel” of the American Motorcyclist Association Pro Racing’s oldest and most traditional professional racing series to Indianapolis was the fact that it was held on the inaugural Red Bull Indianapolis Moto GP weekend at the crosstown Indianapolis Motor Speedway. This year, the fans descending on Indianapolis from around the globe will again have the chance to see the exciting handlebar-to-handlebar dirt track action of AMA Pro Flat Track Grand National action at the Indy Mile. Gates will open at 2:00pm at the Indiana State Fairgrounds with qualifying beginning at 3:00pm. A rider autograph session will be held from 5:30pm to 6:30pm. Opening ceremonies begin at 7:00pm followed by racing at 7:30pm. The main event is scheduled for 9:30pm. Tickets are on sale now at any Ticketmaster location, www.ticketmaster.com, or by calling 1-800-745-3000. The very top riders are expected for the 2009 edition of the Lucas Oil Indy Mile Grand National. Seven-time champion Chris Carr is expected to return to defend his 2008 win. Returning three-time AMA Pro Flat Track Grand National Twins Champion Kenny Coolbeth on the factory Screamin’ Eagle Harley-Davidson, his teammate- past champion Joe Kopp are expected as well as Team Suzuki’s Jake Johnson. Dating to pre-World War II years, Flat Track is a uniquely American form of motorcycle racing. Riders pitch their machines sideways into the turns, inches apart from each other, at speeds of over 140 mph. Drafting on the long straights keeps the field close and provides the closest finishes in motorcycle racing. The legendary Indy Mile Flat Track is renowned for fast racing, intense drafting wars, and multiple lead changes on every lap. Often a photo finish camera is needed to reveal the winner at the end of the furious 25-lap finale.
