Byers, CO, September 18, 2016 – To end the 2016 season, the MRA championship series returned to High Plains Raceway on Sept 17-18. to use the full 2.55 mile course. This configuration has the most passing opportunities with several hard braking sections and a 2800′ back straight with a fast entry and exit.
Being the final race of the year, everyone was checking the points standings and pulling out their calculators to size up the weekend tasks ahead of them. In particular, Shannon Moham and Wyeth Jackson were tied for the Race of the Rockies GTU championship and had their race faces on for the weekend. Unfortunately, Jackson ran up on the curb inside the fast turn 3 during Friday’s practice and broke her collarbone. Having several championships on the line, she proved to be the tough competitor she has been all season and gridded up for all of her races. She scored enough points to lock in championships in Formula 40 GTU and Ladies of the Rockies and top 5 in Middleweight and Heavyweight Supersport. She also hammered through for 11 laps in Race of the Rockies on Sunday to secure 2nd in RoR GTO and the #7 plate for 2017.
Adding to the Race of the Rockies championship battle, Shannon Moham wadded his Yamaha YZF-R6 in Saturday’s races by running up on the curbing inside turn 4. His bike cartwheeled and tore the steering stem right through the triple clamps. Moham was sore and suffered some road rash, but was able to hop on his backup bike and complete the weekend. He secured two championships including Race of the Rockies GTU and took the #9 plate for 2017.
Ryan Burke put an exclamation point on his very successful season by winning Race of the Rockies. At the start, Ricky Orlando took the hole shot with Dan Turner in second and Burke third. Having claimed the championship during the previous round, Burke could have settled in for a fun ride behind Orlando and Turner, but that’s not how Ryan rides. By the end of the first lap, Burke had got past Turner and 2 laps later he took the lead from Orlando. From there Burke kept the lap times in the low 1:48 range with Orlando turning high 1:48s and Turner in the 1:50s. Behind the top three, John Borst had to deal with a visiting and hard charging Kelcey Walker for fourth and fifth with Borst getting the best of that battle. Kelcey Walker was the fastest of the GTU racers and finished in the top spot with Brian Dobrowolski and Ken Yee rounding out the GTU podium.
The MRA will conclude its 2016 race season with the annual awards banquet on November 12th at the Lamar Street Center in Arvada, CO. For more information, check the MRA General Discussion forum at http://forums.mra-racing.org/

More, from a press release issued by Shannon Moham’s publicist:
Moham Wraps up the MRA Season with 8 Class Championships and 8 Class Lap Records
2016 was quite the year for MRA’s Marathon Man, Shannon Moham. Known for the multiple number of races entered each race weekend, this Marathon Man did not disappoint in 2016. Putting his quite famous and very well known Mighty SV in the garage for the year, Moham replaced his beloved lightweight twin with a middleweight twin, an Imperial Sportbike Ducati 848. Not wanting to change his program up too much, he kept his Yamaha R6 for what he hoped to be another successful race year. Those hopes became a reality as Moham proved that he could dominate on any bike you put him on. Debuting the Ducati 848, he took home the championship in Thunderbike and Super Twins GTO. The Imperial Sportbike Duc was on the box every single race weekend, allowing Shannon to claim the 2, new to him, Class Championships. His R6 didn’t disappoint either as Moham won the MRA’s premier class Race of the Rockies GTU Class Championship. He also dominated Middleweight Superbike, Heavyweight Superbike, Middleweight Endurance and Heavyweight Endurance, taking home these Class Championships as well. The Clubman Championship, a class for that racer with the most points earned in a race season still belongs to Moham. That’s a total of Eight MRA Class Championships!! As if that weren’t enough for this incredible racer, he ended up with 8 Class Lap Records in 2016. Moham is the current holder of Thirty Class Track Records set at 5 different racetracks. Quite the accomplishment!
Moham attributes his race wins and class track records to his incredibly supportive sponsors. “I compete in a ton of races and I’m on a budget”. He states, “It’s so awesome that over the course of so many races, Dunlop tires continue to give me the grip to run up front each and every time”. “Steve Brubaker and Cori Maynard are two of the coolest people out there and they have given us such amazing support over the years. We are so grateful to the Dunlop Team and all they’ve done for us”. Moham also gives credit to his suspension sponsor, Race Tech. “Race Tech and Sydney Ruge have supported my race program for so many years now. They always take care of me and work closely with me all season long. If I need work done on my suspension, they put me on top of their priority list and I work directly with their crew to get everything just right. I believe the fully adjustable G2R cartridge forks and G3S rear shock allow me to push the pace and have contributed in my multiple lap records over the season”. Shannon has nothing but great things to say about one of his local supporters, Imperial Sport bikes. “Imperial, Tim Mieners and Brian Moffet are true professionals. They offer constant support on and off the track. Tim, Brian and their team are key players in my success on the racetrack and I couldn’t get on the box every race weekend without their input and constant help”. Moham doesn’t forget how important his family and friends have made this race season. “Every race weekend my wife Segren, and 2 daughters Denver and Dakota, come and support me. I couldn’t do this without their love and support.” He also thanks his crew Brandon Johnson. “Brandon has been a huge part of our program and is out there every weekend with me working on my bikes and getting me out on the track. He’s a stud and I appreciate his hard work and him putting up with me all season long”.
Shannon would like to personally thank each and every one of his phenomenal sponsors for their support throughout his very successful 2016 race season: Nordic Nursing, K&N, Woodcraft, Galfer Brakes, Quick Cycles, Millenium, Falicon Crankshafts, Renegade Race Fuel, Armor Bodies, Lockhart Phillips, GPR Stabilizer, Vortex, Pit Bull, Vickery Motorsports, Bazaaz, Carillo, Motonation, Motors by Rex, Rocky Mountain Photos, Bloodnickel, Yamaha, and Mom. He also wants to thank the MRA corner workers and Western Ambulance for all their hard work and long hours.
“With every race season, you have your ups and downs,” Moham says. When a radiator failed on his R6, spewing boiling water in his face, Moham suffered through the pain and put his helmet back on to bring home the win. When he hit the curbing in turn 4 at High Plains Race Way, his bike catapulted off the track, splitting the R6 in two!!! Moham walked away from that incredible crash with only a sprain and some bumps and bruises and went on to finish his season in stride. “Racing is definitely for that crazy part in us that some of us possess. I wouldn’t give it up, despite the downs, cause when I’m battling it out on the track with some of the fastest guys in the country, there isn’t anything better.” Stay tuned for 2017!
