MRA: Ryan Burke, Shannon Moham Continue Their Domination, At High Plains Raceway

© 2019, Roadracing World Publishing, Inc. From a press release issued By Jim Brewer on behalf of MRA:.

Byers, CO – The Motorcycle Roadracing Association (MRA) returned to its championship series schedule at High Plains Raceway over the weekend of August 3-4. This time the track was configured to use the west course, which features the full length, high speed back straight, but changes the exit of turn 8 with an immediate right hander leading to the famous prairie corkscrew. The causes the entrance of the corkscrew to be opposite to the usual method and makes the entrance there blind and dropping away.

Conditions this weekend were sunny, hot, and windy, which is typical for eastern Colorado this time of year. There’s always a chance of a rainstorm coming through but that didn’t happen this weekend.

The Race of the Rockies championship has been dominated by Ryan Burke so far this year and this weekend wasn’t any different. Burke has won every race in 2019 and had a commanding points lead over second place Dave Lambert and third place Shannon Moham.

Similar to Burke’s domination, Moham has won every Race of the Rockies GTU and led the class by 40 points over Jim Hinton in second and Jared Dear in third.

Returning from the MotoAmerica circuit, Sean Thomas took the holeshot and lead the field into the first lap. Burke took no time in getting in front, and by the end of lap 1 was in front and laying down lap times consistently in the 1:23 range. Burke disappeared into the distance while Nyles Gourlie and Thomas fought for the remaining podium spots. On lap 2, Gourlie got by Thomas where he stayed up until lap 13 where Thomas was able to capitalize on a Gourlie mistake and took second. Gourlie didn’t give up and fought back to take back second with one lap to go with a bold out braking move into turn 8.

Similar to Burke, Moham took the lead in the GTU class and never was challenged. Moham has been fighting mechanical issues for the last two rounds. To make the Race of the Rockies grid this weekend, Moham with some help transplanted a new motor into his Yamaha YZF-R6 on Saturday night. Evidentially, this motor worked well as did the rest of Moham’s race program getting him the top spot of the GTU podium.

Jim Hinton qualified well and got a great start an settled into second in the GTU class where he finished easily. The remaining position on the GTU podium featured the best battle of the race. Jason Martinez and Jared Dear exchanged third and fourth until a sneaky Dennis Stowers got by both of them just past halfway in the race to finish third.

Class track records were set this weekend in just about every class in the MRA. Ryan Burke set the absolute track race record with a 1:22.698 and a qualifying record of 1:22.514. The standing MRA track records are available at https://www.mra-racing.org/racers/lap-times/

Ryan Burke is supported by Dan Burke and the entire Burke family, Dunlop Motorcycle Tires/Race Tire Services, Boulder Motorsports, Vickery Motorsports, Yamaha Champions Rider School, Superbike Unlimited, Love Tapped by Jenny, Brighton Radiator & Muffler.

Shannon Moham is sponsored by Nordic Nursing, Dunlop tires, Race Tech suspension, Woodcraft CFM, Vortex racing, Vickery Motorsports, Motors by REX, Renegade race fuels, Imperial Sportbikes, Denver n Dakota, Segren’s Nectar, MOM, CP Carrillo, Ninjatech, Bell Helmets, and Rocky Mountain Photo – Jim Browning.

After about a 5 week break, round 6 will be at Pueblo Motorsports Park over the weekend of September 7-8. The SuperStreet program will be held on Saturday afternoon after the 30 minute solo races. More information on the SuperStreet program is available at https://www.mra-racing.org/superstreet/superstree…
