Army of Darkness Takes First N2/WERA Endurance Win of the Year at PittRace.
Media, PA (August 2024) – Army of Darkness took their first victory of the season with riders Josh Hayes and Hunter Dunham scoring the Overall and Heavyweight class wins at round four of the N2/WERA National Endurance Series at Pittsburgh International Race Complex, a.k.a. PittRace. A total of 67 teams competed at the fourth round of the 2024 N2/WERA National Endurance Championship with over $100,000 in purse and contingency.
The 4-Hour N2/WERA National Endurance race turned into a 3-Hour Endurance Race after a first lap incident in turn 5 caused a 1-hour red flag delay when precautionary measures were taken to transport a rider by helicopter to the hospital. Fortunately, all riders were ok, but the delay changed every team’s strategy.
Two-time Twins Cup National Champion Blake Davis on the Alpha Omega Rollers Yamaha YZF-R1 started on pole followed closely by four-time Superbike Champion Josh Hayes on the Army of Darkness Yamaha YZF-R1. The national champions battled tooth and nail with Alpha Omega Rollers’ Davis taking the early lead.
The shortened race changed the fuel stop strategy for all the teams. Army of Darkness was able to take advantage of their oversized tank, stopping only twice for fuel and Dunlop tires while Alpha Omega Rollers had to stop three times. The extra time in the pits cost Alpha Omega Rollers and on their last stop they elected for only fuel to make up the time difference. Hayes on the fresher Dunlop tire was able to run Alpha Omega Rollers’ Eziah Davis down and pass him for the Overall and Heavyweight victory. Despite finishing second Alpha Omega Rollers retains the points lead with rider Blake Davis, Eziah Davis, Anthony Mazziotto, and Miles Thornton. Full Send Moto finished third with riders Eric Anderson and Ian Groom.
YART Taylor Home Comfort won their first Middleweight race of the year on a Dunlop-equipped Yamaha YZF-R6 with riders Anthony Taylor and Ryder Davis. Motor Drone Racing finished second with riders Shane Mags and Brad Burns on a Wiseco-sponsored GSX-R600. Trash Panda Racing placed third in the with riders Chuck Ivey, Nathan Seethaler and Sean Hopkins on a Yamaha YZF-R6.
Robem Engineering continues their dominance of the Lightweight class on their Aprilia RS 660 with teenage riders Alessandro Di Mario and Hank Vossberg. The family team of Brown Town Racing finished second with riders Chase and Reese Brown, and endurance veterans Some Expense Spared finished third with riders Chris Bays and Giacomo Manera.
RTR Racing’s Ryne Snooks and Logan Cunnison, who is back riding after recovering from an injury, won the 2-Hour Ultra-Lightweight Endurance under a red flag after another great battle with One One Nine Racing’s 14-year-old Reese Frankenfield and Carson King. Garrett Racing finished in the third position with riders Anthony Garrett and Eric Garcia.
Double D Racing won the exhibition Relay Class with riders Pat Paschall and Jason Buckner. Twisted Stellas finished second with riders Tim Dobbertin, Ryan Manotti, Eric Smith, and Dave Zaka. TCR Performance rounded out the Relay podium with riders Josh Pelcman and Michael Schumacher.
Round 5 of the N2/WERA National Endurance Series will be at Barber Motorsports Park on October 18th.
