Jon Broom / Zac Chapman Road to Recovery Class Sponsorship For CMRA Formula 4 Mini Sprint Class Raises Awareness for Injured CMRA Racers The 2009 race season was a tough year for two Central Motorcycle Roadracing Association (CMRA) racers, Jon Broom and Zac Chapman. Both of these racers suffered serious head injuries in separate racing incidents — Zac in August, and Jon in September — that have left them on a long path to recovery. Both Jon and Zac and their families have been, and still are, an integral part of the CMRA community; it is imperative that we continue to pray for them and have them in our thoughts during their respective recovery processes. In the spirit of these two injured CMRA racers, a new title sponsor for the CMRA’s Formula 4 mini sprint class has been added for the remainder of the 2010 season, creating the Jon Broom / Zac Chapman Road to Recovery Formula 4 mini sprint class. Several active CMRA racers collaborated and created a cash purse for the Formula 4 mini sprint class. Jon was well known for racing a Kawasaki Ninja 250 and enthusiastically promoting these little bikes as racing platforms. Jon was instrumental in helping the growth of the bike within the CMRA. Zac cut his racing teeth on minis within the CMRA and worked his way up to become one of the quickest CMRA racers the club has known. Occasionally Zac would venture onto the national circuit, racing AMA, WERA, Moto-ST events, and he always a solid contender. In 2007, Zac won the prestigious AMA Horizon Award. Purse payout amounts have not been finalized at this time, but will be determined before the CMRA’s next even on the weekend of April 8 – 11, 2010 at Texas World Speedway. The current proposed payout structure will see a cash purse to the top three finishers in the Formula 4 mini sprint class on each race weekend, and will also include an end-of-the-year championship cash purse to be paid to the top three finishers in the points chase. Jon Broom / Zac Chapman Road to Recovery Initiative organizer Linz Leard says, “We can’t forget Jon and Zac and the struggles and challenges they have in front of them. My hope is that by putting their names as a title sponsor on a CMRA sprint class, a class they both raced and loved, will can continue to raise awareness about them, reminding people that those two guys need us now more than ever. I want to thank fellow CMRA racers and friends Dewayne and Sheri Davis, David Roy, Joe Rodriguez, Mark Niemi, Chris Randle, Irak Leon and Tom Anderson for helping me out with this initiative. This was a team effort; I could not have done this without them and for that I am grateful.” Link to Jon Broom’s website for updated information and donations: ~http://jonbroom.com/getwelljon/~ Link to Zac’s website for updated information and donations: ~http://www.newriver.tv/zac/~
