From a press release issued by CoS (Church of Speed):

The CoS would like to welcome you to the information page for the Festival of Speed III. We will be premiering a new format of qualifying and racing January 23-25 2004 at No Problem Race Way in Belle Rose Louisiana. Information is available at www.churchofspeed.us

The entry is simple, everyone enters by buying a qualifying spot for $150, pre-entries get the transponder included in their entry ($20 Savings). The qualifying groups will be assigned as A, B and CO. The A qualifying group will be Expert License holders. The B qualifying group will be Novice License holders. The CO group is for those who have not raced.

These groups may be split up if the number of entrants exceeds thirty riders in a qualifying group. The groups will have Saturday to set their best qualifying times in open 20 minute sessions. The times will be recorded on an AMB timing system and will be posted hourly. The qualifying will close at 4:20 to facilitate Drag Racing at 4:30. At the close of qualifying the best times for each entrant will be posted in descending order from fastest to slowest, the three race groups will be based on the top 1/3 being Experts the middle 1/3 being Novice and the remaining 1/3 Trophy Class.

Finishing order is made up of the combined totals of two races with extra weight given to the longest race finish. The Experts will race a 20 and a 25 lap race for a purse schedule as follows based on the total number of entrants. 50 entrants will be a purse of $5500 paid back to fifth, 60 entrants $6600 paid back to 6th and so on up to 120 entrants which will payback to 12th and be a purse of $13000.

Your position is based solely on your best qualifying time, it does not matter which group you qualified in. Contingencies will also be paid and are listed on the contingency page.

Novice Racers will be made up of the middle 1/3 qualifying times and this group will run 15 and 20 lap races for trophies and contingencies as well as a bonus cash purse if total entrants exceeds 70.

Trophy Races will be for Trophies and will be made up of the combined totals of a 10 and 15 lap race.

Contingencies have been posted by Walt Schaeffer and Michelin, Dunlop, EBC brakes, GER. Steering Dampers, Silkolinestore.com, GOD Comp and others. More are in the works and will be updated as soon as conformation is made. If you would like to post contingencies please contact Kevin Nolde at [email protected]. If you do not see the products that you use please contact the manufacturer and ask that they post contingencies, it can only benefit the sport.
