Millville, N.J. (December 2, 2009) – New Jersey Motorsports Park today announced one of the deepest and most versatile road racing schedules in North America, with 17 events encompassing three individual circuits at the South Jersey location. From thundering stock cars to the country’s top motorcycle racers, future open-wheel stars to sports car legends and world-championship kart racers, the third season of racing solidifies New Jersey Motorsports Park among the world’s premier new facilities. The 12-turn, 2.25-mile Thunderbolt Raceway will once again host the majority of the Park’s professional events, but the 2010 schedule encompasses events on the 10-turn, 1.9-mile Lightning Raceway and the 1.1-mile F1 New Jersey karting track. “The goal at New Jersey Motorsports Park is to put together a schedule that truly provides a motorsports activity to interest everyone,” said Kevin Wittman, General Manager of New Jersey Motorsports Park. “Our 2010 schedule encompasses top-level automobile racing, the return of one of the top motorcycle road races in North America, world-class karting, and events for car enthusiasts to get up close with rare and unique machines.” AMA Pro Superbike Championship Joined By More Motorcycle Racing In 2010 The most popular event in the short history of New Jersey Motorsports Park was last season’s debut of the AMA Pro Superbike Championship. Already one of the industry favorites on the series calendar, the September 3 – 5 return date establishes a Labor Day tradition for the series and Mid-Atlantic motorcycle race fans. Josh Hayes is expected to lead a swarm of new challengers to Mat Mladin’s vacated-by-retirement Superbike title, in a season that might be the most wide open championship race in years. Also on the schedule is the recently-announced New Jersey Road Race Series, a partnership between the Championship Cup Series (CCS) and New Jersey Motorsports Park. Tickets will be available for the four-race series, including two races on Thunderbolt Raceway (April 30 – May 2 and July 23 – 25) and a pair of weekends on Lightning Raceway (June 25 – 27 and September 10 – 12). Four Wheel Activities Continue To Grow In Prestige and Number New Jersey Motorsports Park was built with automobile racing in mind, and there are very few road racing facilities that can match the collection of sports cars, stock cars, and open-wheel machines scheduled to visit again in 2010. As in the opening two seasons, the ARCA Racing Series presented by RE/MAX, the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series, and the Atlantic Championship presented by Mazda highlight the season schedule, but numerous wheel-to-wheel events dot the calendar. The green flag waves on the 2010 four-wheel season, appropriately, with the organization synonymous with the dawn of road racing in the United States – the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA). The SCCA Pro Racing weekend, featuring the revived SCCA Pro Muscle Milk Trans-Am Series, makes its muscle car debut May 7-9. The rumble of the Trans-Am series is contrasted with the quiet, clean-burning Volkswagen TDI Cup Series, both joined by SCCA’s Spec Racer Pro Series and SCCA Formula Enterprise Pro Series. The New Jersey Vintage Grand Prix and Family Festival returns with vintage race cars from the VSCCA, May 21-23. The South Jersey Region of the SCCA hosts just the second SCCA Club Racing National in the state of New Jersey in 40 years, racing on Thunderbolt Raceway, June 5 -6. Racers in 25 classes will visit New Jersey Motorsports Park to earn points towards the season-ending National Championship Runoffs, with only the lack of prize money separating “club” racing from a professional event. The summer months at New Jersey Motorsports Park belong to some of the most talented racers in the world. Formula Zoom, featuring the Atlantic Championship powered by Mazda, showcases the full Mazda ladder series of future stars, June 25 – 27. The open-wheel, lightning quick Atlantic Championship series has produced an alumni list that is a who’s who of racing stars, including past and present IndyCar drivers Bobby Rahal, Danny Sullivan, Michael Andretti, Jimmy Vasser, Danica Patrick, Formula One legends and champions Gilles Villeneuve, Jacques Villeneuve and Keke Rosberg, NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers Sam Hornish Jr. and A.J. Allmendinger and sports car stars Jon Fogarty, Alex Gurney and Simon Pagenaud. The Star Mazda Championship and the always-thrilling SCCA Pro Playboy MX-5 Cup series join the Atlantic Championship during the weekend. Series champions Gurney and Fogarty lead the exotic Daytona Prototypes and GT machines of the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series back to New Jersey Motorsports Park. The series that introduced Grey’s Anatomy star Patrick Dempsey to Millville returns with a Mid-Summer classic, July 16 – 18. Grand-Am’s street stock series, Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge, and the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge featuring a full field of the iconic pony cars, join the weekend’s activities. Few cars capture the imagination of enthusiasts than the sleek look and distinct engine note of a Ferrari. The Ferrari Challenge, July 30 – August 1, combines a full field of modern F430 race cars with vintage Ferraris of all eras, offering a visual show like no other. The ARCA Racing Series presented by RE/MAX makes a third visit to the 2.25-mile road course, this season under the August sun. The thundering V-8 powered stock cars, August 13 – 15, once again deviate from their extensive oval schedule to turn left and right at New Jersey Motorsports Park. The Vintage Racer Group (VRG) ends the season on Lightning Raceway, September 24-26. The Karting World Turns Their Eyes To F1 New Jersey In 2010 World-class karting truly makes its New Jersey debut during the 2010 schedule. The only North American round of the Italian-based Winning Series Karting (WSK) International visits New Jersey Motorsports Park’s F1 New Jersey track, July 28 – August 1. WSK International, which hosts a European series, is running a true National Championship for karting competitors in 2010. The three-race series visits Portimao, Portugal; Sham el Sheik, Egypt; and F1 New Jersey at New Jersey Motorsports Park. While wild-card entries may be accepted, each of the full-time competitors in the world championship are required to enter all three events – assuring a true international flavor at the F1 New Jersey stop. WSK will bring the world’s focus to New Jersey Motorsports Park with an international television package, beaming the race around Europe. WSK has also unveiled a North American Series which will visit New Jersey Motorsports Park, July 23-25. The WSK North American Series will be run by Championship Karting International (CKI), the premier karting championship in the United States that debuted at F1 New Jersey last season. The North American Series will begin a two week run of top-level karting events, capped by WSK International. Based purely on numbers, the largest karting weekend of the year may be September 17-19 at Lightning Raceway and F1 New Jersey. One of the most anticipated weekends each season has been the Woodbridge Karting Club’s hosting of the World Karting Association (WKA) Dunlop Tire Road Racing Series. This season’s event places some of the fastest go-karts available on the 1.9-mile Lightning Circuit, providing a show unlike any other. While the WKA road racing is happening, the WKA Manufacturer’s Cup will bring top-level sprint racing to the F1 New Jersey tarmac – filling the paddock with the high-speed machines, their drivers, and their families. F1 New Jersey will also host three rounds of the New Jersey Sprint Series again in 2010, the two-track regional series that alternates between New Jersey Motorsports Park and Raceway Park. 2010 New Jersey Motorsports Park Spectator Schedule: April 30 – May 2: CCS New Jersey Road Race Series (Thunderbolt) May 7 – 9: SCCA Pro Racing (Thunderbolt) May 21 – 23: New Jersey Vintage Grand Prix and Family Festival (Thunderbolt) June 5 – 6: South Jersey Region SCCA Club Racing National (Thunderbolt) June 25 – 27: Formula Zoom, featuring the Atlantic Championship powered by Mazda (Thunderbolt) June 25 – 27: CCS New Jersey Road Race Series (Lightning) July 16 – 18: Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series (Thunderbolt) July 23 – 25: CCS New Jersey Road Race Series (Thunderbolt) July 23 – 25: WSK North American Series (F1 New Jersey) July 30 – Aug. 1: Ferrari Challenge (Thunderbolt) July 28 – Aug. 1: Winning Series Karting International World Championship (F1 New Jersey) August 13 – 15: ARCA Racing Series presented by RE/MAX (Thunderbolt) September 3 – 5: AMA Pro Superbike Championship (Thunderbolt) September 10 – 12: CCS New Jersey Road Race Series (Lightning) September 17 – 19: WKA Dunlop Tire Road Racing Series (Lightning) September 17 – 19: WKA Manufacturer’s Cup (F1 New Jersey) September 23 – 25: VRG Vintage Weekend (Lightning) Ticket information for the 2010 season, including individual event tickets, the 2010 All-Inclusive Season Pass and multiple event ticket packages, will be announced soon.
