Toni ELIAS, Spain (MORIWAKI), did not ride Editorial Note: Gresini Racing’s Toni Elias was not allowed to ride in Friday’s practice because he and his team violated a rule by testing August 8 at Misano, according to the official MotoGP website. More, from a press release issued by Interwetten Moto2 Team: INTERWETTEN MORIWAKI Moto2 TEAM – Important work on settings for Lüthi in Brno The first free practice of the Grand Prix Ceské republiky started moderately with a 15th position for Tom Lüthi and the Interwetten Moriwaki Moto2 Team, but was not disappointing. Lüthi had difficulties to find his rhythm back after the break and also the work on the set up for the bike is not finished yet before the Grand Prix in Brno. Important work on the settings will need to be done before tomorrow’s session. After long discussions with the partners like Moriwaki and Öhlins the best idea for the settings already has been agreed and Lüthi is confident that the direction will be the right one for tomorrow and the race on Sunday. Tom Lüthi, 15 – 2’05.741: “I was back on my bike for the first time after the break and it really felt good. You feel a bit rusty after such a long time and I had to find a rhythm at th e beginning and during almost the whole session. Also the settings need to be improved for the bike, but I can see that we all think in the same direction with that. For tomorrow the solution should be found for sure.” Terrell Thien, Team Manager: “We know where we lost the time. The 15th position doesn’t look very nice, but everything is fine and I am not worried. I am sure we will fix the problem until tomorrow.” More, from a press release issued by Marc VDS Racing Team: CONFIDENCE REMAINS HIGH AT MARC VDS Scott Redding was 21st fastest during today’s opening free practice session at Brno, with Hector Faubel finishing less than a second adrift of his Marc VDS teammate in 32nd position. Both riders are confident of significant improvements in their lap times tomorrow, as they continue work to refine the set-up of their Suter MMX Moto2 machines. Redding struggled throughout the session with rear traction issues, losing time out of each of the Brno circuit’s 14 corners as the rear tyre started spinning up under acceleration. The British teenager’s crew will make changes to the rear of his bike tonight, as well as switching to the latest version of the Suter MMX chassis, which is predicted to improve rear traction further. Faubel and his crew made big changes to the set-up of his Moto2 machine ahead of today’s session, in a bid to improve the feeling for the rider and also to increase the Spaniard’s confidence in the bike. Following the hour-long session, Faubel declared himself happy with the progress made and, although disappointed with his final lap time, confident that this could be improved with further changes to the set-up of the bike tomorrow. Today’s opening free practice session was held in dry conditions, but rain has been forecast to arrive at the Brno circuit sometime tomorrow afternoon, meaning qualifying could well be held in the wet. Scott Redding #45: 21st – 2’06.105 “I got stuck in the 2’06s bracket this afternoon and didn’t seem to be able to improve. Rear traction is a big issue for us here, especially with the second of the two tyres we tried today. There just didn’t seem to be any edge grip and we need to sort this out ready for tomorrow. The team will make some changes to the rear of the bike to try and improve things, but we’ll also switch to the latest version of the Suter chassis tomorrow, as this looks like it could offer some advantages also. It’s disappointing I wasn’t able to improve today, but I’m confident we’ll go better tomorrow.” Hector Faubel #55: 32nd – 2’06.933 “We’ve made a lot of changes to the bike and this has improved the feeling considerably. My confidence has increased with every lap today, so I’m happy about that. Obviously I’m not happy with the lap time, but I am confident this will come tomorrow. We will make some further small changes to the bike ahead of the second free practice session then it will just be a case of full gas and trying for fast lap times. This way of working is good for me and I hope we will see some big improvements tomorrow.” Pete Benson: Scott Redding’s Crew Chief “The first tyre we tried today was better than the second, which didn’t have the same level of edge grip. To improve rear traction tomorrow we’ll be changing the rear suspension settings overnight, but we’ll also switch to the revised Suter chassis, which should offer some improvement in terms of drive out of the turns. We’ll see how we go from there for tomorrow afternoon’s qualifying session.” More, from a press release issued by JiR Moto2 Team: Today saw the first day of Free Practice at the Czech circuit in Brno, where the Moto2 World Championship will begin again following the summer break. Team JiR brought to the track the technical updates that have been developed during the holiday, with Corsi immediately up at the sharp end and with Teshima already being competitive during his first time at this circuit. The Roman pushed hard from the beginning with a series of fast laps made at the start of the session and stayed in top positions for all the 60 minutes of the session, ending up in 7th. Today’s objective was to look for confirmation of the technical evolutions developed for the second part of the season, hence Corsi ran for 23 laps. The same amount of laps were also recorded for the second rider and TSR’s developer, Yusuke Teshima, who used the early laps to understand the lines on this new track for him and then he concentrated on the testing work on his MotoBI. During tomorrow morning’s free practice session the team will continue the fine-tuning work on the two machines preparing them for the qualifying session where it will be important to gain a good position on the grid.
