NORDCO Racing Takes Win In A Superbike Endurance And The Overall Win In CMRA 5 Hour Big Bike Endurance At Eagles Canyon Raceway

The Central Motorcycle Roadracing Association (CMRA) brought 7 hours of racing action to the 2.5-mile Eagles Canyon Raceway course this past Saturday, September 29, in Decatur, Texas. Steady drizzle, and temperatures in the 70’s, made for very slick racing conditions during the Mini Sprints in the morning. However, as the 2-Hour Mini Endurance began, the wind picked up, and scattered showers drifted through the area, with the rain pausing long enough for the track to start to dry. By the time the 5-Hour Big Bike Endurance began at 1:45 pm, the wind started to pick up, and the rain came back, making the track full wet conditions for the entire race.

The 2-Hour Mini Endurance had a combined grid of 23 teams, with the classes of Formula 4, Formula 5, Formula 6, and Formula 7 Endurance, and ran on the 1.7-mile short course of the raceway. The Davis Rod and Cycle team, consisting of Jesse Davis, Ryan Andrews, and Brandon Altmeyer, riding a Kawasaki EX250, set the fastest lap of the race, running a 1:30.1899. However, the Fastline Minis team, consisting of Peter Shaddock, Sid Shaddock, Kris Lillegard, and Matt Tingsanchali took the lead and went on to take both the win in Formula 4 and the overall endurance win. This is the team’s first podium and win this season. The Davis Rod and Cycle team took second in both Formula 4 and the overall. The Green Machine team of David Tiede, Ulug Bayramoglu, and Austin Gore, took third in Formula 4 and overall with a Kawasaki EX250, the first podium for them this season as well.

The 5-Hour Big Bike Endurance had a combined grid of 13 teams, with classes A Superbike, C Superbike, Fastline Motorcycle School Formula 2, and Modern Classic Endurance. The Lone Star Track Days team of Mark Niemi, Andy Galindo, Eric Williams, and Hunter Morgan on a Kawasaki ZX-6R set the fastest lap of the race early, running a 2:09.039. But the brutal weather conditions got worse quickly, and lap times climbed to 2:47 for a fast lap. The NORDCO Racing team of Todd Larson, Brandon Young, and Michael Rochester set their sights on the points leader Village Idiots team and rode on to take the win in A Superbike and the overall win. This was the first win of the season for the NORDCO team. Lone Star Track Days took the win in C Superbike and second overall. Team EDS: Michael Humphries, Shane Zelm, Scott Eichhorn, and Darrell Ricks riding a Suzuki SV650 took first in Formula 2 and third overall.

Brandon Young of NORDCO Racing had this to say,” We took a gamble at the start of the race. The track was dry with rain coming so we started with a rain front and a slick rear tire. We got a great start and set the pace but on lap 4 it started raining and we had a big high side crash in turn 8. Luckily the bike was ok and we could still put our heads down and finish strong. The entire team rode a great race. We narrowed the gap to the Village Idiots down to 123 points going into the final round at TWS! The entire team would like to thank George and Cinda with NORDCO for their continued support!”

The final round of endurance racing will be held on November 10, 2012, at Texas World Speedway. For more information and a complete list of results and standings, go to: www.cmraracing.com
