Michael Hannas, II, Yamaha Heat Race One: Team Oliver Yamaha’s Rich Oliver took the lead from Corbin Yamaha’s Jim Filice on the first lap, then pulled away to win by 4.4 seconds over GP Tech Yamaha’s Chuck Sorensen. Filice held off PJ1’s Ed Marchini and Jeff Leggitt in a battle that lasted all five laps of the race. MBNA 250cc Grand Prix Heat Race Two Results 1. Roland Sands, Yamaha 2. Perry Melneciuc, Yamaha 3. Simon Turner, Yamaha 4. Derek MacKelvie King, Honda 5. Cory West, Yamaha 6. Greg Esser, Honda Performance Machine’s Roland Sands ran away with the win in the second 250cc Grand Prix heat race by 14 seconds over Sun Sports’ Perry Melneciuc. Melneciuc had a problem on the first lap that allowed Pro-Pac’s Derek King to pass, but Melneciuc got second place back on the last lap when King had a problem of his own, running wide in turn 11. Irishman Simon Turner took third while King recovered to grab fourth. Harder Racing Development’s Cory West swapped positions with Fab Weld’s Greg Esser on the last lap with West, 16, taking fifth, and Esser finishing sixth.
