SONOMA, Calif. “” Race fans attending the Kawasaki AMA Sueprbike Showdown at Infineon Raceway will be treated a new perspective over the public-address system as legendary rider Rich Oliver has been added to the raceway’s announce team. Oliver, one of the most decorated riders in AMA history, was inducted into the Infineon Raceway Wall of Fame in 2006 and provided color commentary over the race weekend. This time, he will be a full-time member of the announce team, and race fans will benefit from his experience, as well as his great anecdotal stories. The race weekend, which is presented by Supercuts, is slated for May 16-18. “I started my racing career at Infineon Raceway when I was 16, and later I was able to win five AMA 250 Grand Prix races there, so I do know the track quite well,” said Oliver, who lives in Auberry (near Fresno) and runs Rich Oliver’s Mystery School, a flat-track training school. “Now I want to describe the thrill of racing a motorcycle around this rollercoaster of a track, and give the fans an inside look as to what it takes to win there from a pro rider’s perspective.” Oliver dominated the 250 Grand Prix class in Sonoma , taking the checkered flag four consecutive years (1994-97). Moreover, he won the Grand Prix title a fifth time in Sonoma in 2003 before eventually retiring. One of Oliver’s most crowning moments were his perfect seasons in 1996 and 1997. He won 20 consecutive races each year. Oliver will be joined in the broadcast booth by David Koenig, who will serve as the play-by-play announcer. Koenig, known as David K, is a former racer who also announces at Willow Springs International Raceway and Auto Club Speedway in Fontana . Koenig resides in San Diego .
