Volunteers Descend on Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca for Superbike World Championship July 17-19

MONTEREY, Calif., July 14, 2015 — More than 2,300 community volunteers are descending on Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca this week to help host the eni FIM Superbike World Championship GEICO Motorcycle U.S. Round July 17-19. The army of volunteers will put in more than 8,500 hours in exchange for donations to their clubs and charities.

“Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca was built on the backs of volunteers in 1957, and volunteers continue to generously give of their time to support the circuit and the community,” said Gregg Curry, president of the Sports Car Racing Association of the Monterey Peninsula. “It’s not uncommon to see generational involvement, as parents pass along their volunteering legacy to their children. This is what makes Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca so special – it is a community environment.”

Among the critical areas where volunteers support are vehicle control and parking, concessions, paddock control, corner workers, guest services, camping, medical, admissions, registration, and much more. Without the community support of this facility, the racing just would not happen.

Monterey’s population swells when the international cadre of riders, teams, support services, broadcasters, sponsors, journalists and fans begin arriving today on the central coast. “Being part of an international event, and many times behind-the-scenes access, is a memorable opportunity,” Curry added.

With an all-volunteer board of directors, assistant directors and clubs, World Superbike teams will be greeted with enthusiastic smiles and a can-do infectious spirit that is symbolic of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

The track goes green Friday at 8:30 a.m. for MotoAmerica’s Superstock 600 practice. The first free practice for Superbike World Championship riders begins at 11:15 a.m.

Single and discounted multi-day tickets with open paddock and grandstand seating are still available at www.mazdaraceway.com or by calling 831-242-8200.
