PanAmerican Superbike: Mesa Wins Feature Race At Homestead

PanAmerican SuperBike (PanAmSBK) returned home on July 23 & 24 to South Florida for Round 7 of the 2022 championship at Homestead-Miami Speedway. While the temps were high, the racing was hotter on the track.

The Sunoco SuperBike 1000 Grande Corsa saw a battle of two MotoAmerica racers, Stefano Mesa and Maximiliano Gerardo, against each other from start to finish. Maximiliano was on pole with 1:24.103, and Stefano starting in P2 with a 1:24.642. The qualifying times were an indication of how the race would unfold. Throughout the twelve lap Grande Corsa race, we witnessed eight lead changes across the line. Lap after lap, these two were putting in laps that were less than a tenth of second of each other. At the checkered, it was Mesa with the win by 0.079 seconds!

The start of the sprint races began with a 24 racer field in the SuperStock 600. We would witness another close race from start to finish. Fernando Silva was on pole with his brother Bruno Silva in P2 and Christian Miranda in P3. On the first lap, Christian wasted no time getting to the front to lead the pack across the line with Fernando firmly planted on his rear wheel. Lap after lap, their lap times were less than 0.200 seconds apart that set up another photo finish. At the checkered, Fernando was able to edge out Christian by 0.129 seconds.

With Homestead-Miami Speedway being a home track for many of the PanAmSBK racers, it was no surprise to see familiar faces on the podiums. Stefano Mesa’s return to the PanAmSBK grid resulted in two race wins for him. Max Angles found his form again with two race wins in the Expert Sunoco SuperBike 600 and Expert SuperStock 600 classes. Adrian Mitchell, the fastest barber on wheels, rode away with two wins in the Expert Production Twins class. JM Padron swept the Expert Euro Light with race wins in the Grande Corsa and Sprint race.

Isaac Woodworth continues to impress. Isaac finished the weekend with wins in the Amateur SuperStreet 300 Grande Corsa and Sprint races. Along with his race wins, he set a new class record with his 1:43.544 during the Grande Corsa race. His race wins and lap record was not the only impressive results of the weekend. In a 22 racer grid composed of 300’s, 390’s, and 400’s, this young gun finished in the overall top 3 in both races, only beaten by racers on 400’s.

Eduardo Aguayo is a face you would recognize on the SuperStreet 300 podium. This round he decided to try his hand out with motorcycle with a bit more displacement. Aboard a KTM 890 Duke, Eduardo rode the duke to two race wins in the Amateur Formula Twins class and two race wins in the Euro Light class.  Once he got comfortable with the bike at race pace, he went on to set the Formula Twin class record during the sprint race, and also set the class lap record for the Euro Light.

Next month, PanAmSBK heads back to Bloomingdale, GA for Round 8 at Roebling Road Raceway. As we saw last month with the repaved track, more lap records will surely be falling. PanAmSBK is still running their promotion for free weekend race license to any current licensed racers (WERA, CCS, AHMRA, etc) new to the series. If you’re thinking of coming to see what all the talk is about, now’s your chance. Don’t get left behind!
