From a press release issued by Parkalgar Honda: Jones wants more of the same down under PARKALGAR HONDA ace Craig Jones is aiming for another podium performance when he visits Phillip Island in Australia this weekend for the second round of the World Supersport Championship. Jones took a brilliant third place in Qatar last Saturday after challenging for the whole race at the front. In what is one of the most hotly contested titles in motorcycle racing, the popular British rider is confident he can build on that result as he puts together his title challenge. Parkalgar Honda’s Miguel Praia is on a fast learning curve after taking 13th at the opening round of the Championship. The Portuguese racer has shown he has the talent and team behind him to challenge for the top 10 and will be doing all he can to achieve that in Australia. “It is a very busy start to the season for Parkalgar Honda,” explained Team Manager Simon Buckmaster. “Qatar and Phillip Island being fly-away events only one week apart put a lot of pressure on the team staff and logistics. The squad is up for the challenge though and the podium last weekend has got us all off to a positive start; we really believe we can fight for the Championship. “Qatar and Phillip Island are the two circuits on the calendar that we have absolutely no data for and that means we are a little behind the other teams. Craig has ridden at the circuits previously but his technicians and team management have changed so effectively, he knows the way around but the team is blind to any previous set-up data and that doesn’t help. “If we can come away from Australia with another podium then that will be a big achievement and establish Craig as a title contender. “Miguel is doing a great job and has the natural riding ability to race further up the field than 13th. It will take some time to realise his true potential but by the end of the year we want him racing in the top 10 regularly.” Practice starts at the picturesque 4445m circuit on Friday, February 29th, with the race taking place on Sunday, March 2nd.
