TORONTO, Ont. Tuners in the Parts Canada Superbike Championship will have a little more margin to play with in the 2007 season. The maximum horsepower limit for the feature class has been raised to 185hp, following a meeting of participating manufacturers and series organizer Professional Motorsport Productions. This represents an increase of 5hp over the 2006 maximum. “With reliable data now available regarding the new models designed for use in the 2007 season, we have agreed to increase the horsepower limit in the Superbike class,” said PMP’s Colin Fraser. Both Suzuki and Yamaha have released updates of their respective GSX-R1000 and YZF-R1 feature class weapons for the 2007 season. “We are a production based class so we have to keep costs in mind,” said Nathan Naslund, general manager of corporate communications for Suzuki Canada. “But we don’t want to impede the progress of each manufacturer and we have to keep moving forward as various technologies come out.” As with all Parts Canada Superbike classes, horsepower will be measured after qualifying and races on the official series Dynojet Dyno. The revised Superbike horsepower limit was one of a number of new developments to come out of the recent manufacturers’ meeting. The AiM Sports MXL Pista has been designated as the sole data acquisition system permitted in the Superbike, Hindle Exhaust Pro 600 Sport Bike, and Thunder twins classes. The system, with 8 MB of memory, also serves as a digital dash, tachometer, offers eight analog inputs, one speed input, internal lateral G sensor and lap timer. Competitors will be allowed to use as many chassis reading potentiometer “pots” as the stock AiM MXL Pista system permits. Information from the system will be used in the Parts Canada Superbike Championship television coverage. The “Wild West Weekend” series doubleheader at Calgary’s Race City Motorsport Park June 29-July 1 will now feature Saturday and Sunday finals for all five national classes. If all goes smoothly with the first ever International Motorcycle SUPERSHOW Amateur 600 Sport Bike class twin bill in Calgary the same format will be used for the subsequent doubleheader at Mosport International Raceway two weeks later. Mosport is slated to hold Saturday and Sunday features for all classes except Amateur 600 Sport Bike. Finally, allowances have been made for number plate requirements. Although mounting of numbers on each side of the tail section is still recommended, due to recent changes in stock bodywork configuration competitors will be allowed to use a single, centrally-mounted number on the top of the tail section, as in the World Superbike and Supersport series. No other markings are allowed on the top of the tail, numbers must be at least eight inches in height and may not wrap around the bodywork. It is also recommended that numbers be tastefully displayed on each competitor’s helmet to aid in rider identification at trackside. The 2007 Parts Canada Superbike Championship will open at Le Circuit Mont-Tremblant May 31-June 3 and conclude at Shannonville Motorsport Park, near Belleville, Ont. Aug. 31-Sept. 3.
