Pascarella was nearly one second quicker than the rest of the field. Pascarella, a Vacaville, California resident, was quickest in both SuperSport sessions on the day and earned provisional pole with a lap of 1:29.310. The winner of race two at Daytona earlier this month was able to set the fast time despite a training accident that left him sore. During qualifying, Joey was able to respond to any challenges as he continually lowered the best time. “Once I get out there on the track, it’s not too bad and when the races come, it won’t be an excuse,” said Joey about his bicycle training scrapes. “I’ve got my stuff together this year and I’ve been really focused and ready to race. I’ve been training hard and I am doing my best to take my racing to the next level. My bike’s working really well and I’d like to thank the team and all my sponsors.” Nash progressed to third fastest in the afternoon session with a time of 1:31.534. Huntley, from Marietta, Georgia, is focused on the East Coast SuperSport series but is racing at Fontana to continue honing his skills. “This is my first time at this track and I’ve been working really hard to figure it out,” said Nash. “Hopefully I’ll be able to close the gap to Joey but for the first time on the track, I think it was pretty good. I saw some areas on the track where I think we can improve for tomorrow so I’ll think about them overnight.” Final qualifying for the AMA Pro SuperSport races will be held at 9 AM on Saturday and the first race of the weekend will begin tomorrow at 2:45 PM local time.
