Foremost Pegram Ducati’s Larry Pegram was the fastest rider during Friday morning AMA Pro American Superbike practice at Infineon Raceway, but all of his times were disallowed due to him making too many track cuts during the session. Pegram turned a 1:36.961 on his 1098R, according to his team and AMA Pro Racing timing and scoring, but that time along with several low-1:37 laps were removed after he cut the course at Turn Four and then repeatedly cut the course at Turn Nine, according to race officials. Pegram thought that it was OK to cut the Turn Nine chicane if he was on an “in” lap, but officials strongly disagreed, saying it was never OK to cut the course intentionally. Officially, Rockstar Makita Suzuki’s Mat Mladin led the session with a 1:37.240 on his 2009-model GSX-R1000. He was followed by Yamaha’s Ben Bostrom and his 1:37.253. Bostrom did his lap time on his secondary YZF-R1 after he crashed his primary bike on a cold tire, according to his team. The session marked Neil Hodgson’s first on-track action since he raced at Daytona. Hodgson has been out due to a shoulder injury in March he suffered while training on a motocross bike. Hodgson was ninth-fastest with a 1:39.095 on his CBR1000RR. Hodgson said he was doing “not too bad, actually. Better than I thought. The shoulder’s still loosening up, and it’s painful — really painful. But the best thing I can do for it is be out on the bike.” Jake Holden, who filled in for Corona Extra Racing during Hodgson’s absence, was seventh-quickest with a 1:38.592 on his personal “superstock” CBR1000RR, which he is running in Corona Racing colors. Rockstar Makita Suzuki’s Blake Young did not try to ride during the session and plans to withdraw from the event to let his injured finger continue to heal.
