Founded in 1973 by Jerry Wood and Joe Ziegler, the Penguin Racing School based in Winchendon, MA, is the nation’s first and longest running motorcycle training school. The school was key in helping transform road racing safety as the sport grew in the 1970s. The first Penguin School manual “Learn to Fly” provided riders with a game plan for a complete understanding of road racing rules and safety procedures as well as a solid path to improve their skills. The school grew under the leadership of Jerry Wood and their first advanced class instructor, factory rider, John Bettencourt. John was succeeded by the famous US Superbike privateer, Dale Quarterley. Currently, under the leadership of Eric Wood, son of founder Jerry Wood, the school has expanded from its base operation at New Hampshire Motor Speedway to include schools in New Jersey and Florida. Utilizing advanced training materials, with the industry’s best team of lead instructors, the school trains thousands street riders and racers in basic and advanced skills.
