Supersport World Championship and AMA Superbike series regular Chris Peris came back to Willow Springs International Raceway for the first time in months and took the win in the Toyota Cup Unlimited Formula One race. Jeremy Toye, winner of all but one of the Formula One races with Willow Springs Motorcycle Club (WSMC) this season, was second, and Jeff Stern filled out the podium. Peris started from the third spot in the headlining event and ended the first lap in third. But Peris worked his way into the lead by the next lap and was never headed as he eased out to a 6.1-second margin at the line. “It was my first time on the 1000, so I just tried to put my head down and it all came together,” said Peris, who also took the Open Modified Production win. On a day plagued by high, gusting winds, Peris’ best lap was a 1:22.238. Toye, meanwhile, struggled with setup and the wind. “I was having a wrestling match out there,” said Toye, who finished just 0.14 seconds ahead of a charging Stern. Stern won the most races on the day, winning the 750cc Superstock, 750cc Superbike, 750cc Modified Production and Formula 40 Heavyweight. Karl Lowry, Jeff Dixon, Michael Beck and Edward Johnson each took a pair of wins.
