Roadracingworld.com Suzuki teammates Robertino Pietri and Santiago Villa won a 3-hour endurance race held in Colombia, South America on Saturday. The duo did 120 laps at the Tocancipa Circuit and put their Roadracingworld.com Suzuki-Pirelli-P3 Racing-sponsored GSX-R600 on the top of the podium. Pietri had the first stint and led the race for 90 minutes, but during the tire change the team’s crew had some problems, losing a lap and all the work that Tino had done. Villa then did a great job turning the fastest lap of the race and getting back in the battle for the first position. Villa gave Tino the bike again with 30 minutes to go and Tino was able to catch Juan Felipe Velazco and win the race. Robertino Pietri: “It was a great race! I raced in Colombia back in 2003 and the circuit was a little bit different this year. I didn’t have enough time to practice but I just got a good feeling with the bike and the circuit and went fast from the beginning. I took the lead and gave my teammate the bike in first place, but the pit crew had a problem with the rear tire and we lost a Lap. “Santiago Villa pushed hard and caught Gustavo Velazco and passed him. At that point we were already a lap behind. Gustavo Velazco then stuck to Villa. Villa made Velazco think he was going for a pit stop and let him pass but right then Villa just followed him for five laps and passed Velazco again. At that point Gustavo, in his mind, was two laps ahead and slowed down a bit. We then won some positions; with 30 minutes to go, I got the bike again and I was 25 seconds away from Juan Felipe Velazco. I pushed hard and caught him. With three laps to go, I made the pass and we won the race. It was great. “Santiago and I rode with Number 14, he didn’t wanted to race with my 311 and I didn’t want to race with his 23, so we talked and raced with our friend Miguel Gonsalez’s number, he died a long time ago (of cancer), he was a good rider and we honor him with this race win.” Santiago Villa: “It was great to get on a bike again after four months, and it was great to race with my teammate here in my country. Tino did an amazing job and with almost no practice time on the bike or the track he was flying as of lap one. When I got the bike back from him, we were a lap down because we had a problem at the pit stop. I pushed very hard and soon I gained some ground. I tricked Gustavo Velazco with the pit stop, because at that time he was very fast and thank God we got back on the same lap. I did the fastest lap of the race and gave Tino the bike while in the second position, with a great opportunity to attack, and that’s exactly what he did. Four years ago I raced in Colombia an endurance race with two kids Tino and Miguel, and today this race was to honor Miguel a good kid and an amazing friend, it´s unreal to race with Tino four years later and win like this.
