Pikes Peak International Hill Climb: Chris Fillmore Breaks Course Record, Wins In Debut Race

Former MotoAmerica/AMA Pro Superbike racer Chris Fillmore broke the motorcycle lap record and won the Pikes Peak Heavyweight Motorcycle class during the 95th running of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb June 25 near Colorado Springs, Colorado. 

It was Fillmore’s first time competing in the event.

Riding a factory-backed KTM 1290 Super Duke R, Fillmore completed the 12.42-mile, 156-turn course in 9:49.625, eclipsing the previous motorcycle course record of 9:52.819 set by Carlin Dunne on a Ducati Multistrada 1200 in 2012.

Travis Newbold won the Pikes Peak Challenge Exhibition Powersports class with a time of 10:28.552 on his Bottpower XR1R, a custom creation based on a collection of Buell XB parts.

Codie Vahsholtz took first place in the Pikes Peak Middleweight Motorcycle category with a time of 10:34.967 on a Husqvarna Supermoto.

Davey Durelle got the top honor in the Pikes Peak Lightweight Motorcycle division with a time of 10:35.354 on his Heil Construction Management/Dr. Laura Ellis medAge Athletic Development Aprilia SXV450.

Robert Barber got the victory in the Pikes Peak Challenge Electric Motorcycle class with a time of 10:55.500 on his Buckeye Current RW-3x.

Official results were posted and released by event organizers Tuesday afternoon, June 27, two days after the running of the event.
