Pirelli: Once More the Official Tyre Supplier of the Superbike World Championship

Qatar, 24th February 2005 Once more Pirelli will be the unique official supplier for the World Superbike Championship, following on from the highly successful co-operation of the previous season.

2004 will be remembered as the year in which three riders fought until the last race for the ultimate championship prize, but also as the year that has started a new era of control tyre rules, introduced by the organizers, FGSport.

The extreme competitiveness of the Championship, the riders abilities’, the rising performance of standard bikes and rules which demand industrial production techniques to meet the large numbers of tyres required – rather than the hand-made processes used before – have demanded that Pirelli undertakes an impressive commitment.

Being the unique official tyre supplier has led to a stringent reorganization in terms of logistics and production resources, in order to be able to produce and transport nearly 6000 tyres for every race, and also to coordinate the technical support which Pirelli has to provide, with total neutrality in each rider’s treatment.

Enhanced and empowered by the experience of 2004, Pirelli is going to face the new season with a further product improvement, in order to provide the best performance and reliability for all.A fine-tuning job, carried out in conjunction with the development teams which were chosen jointly by the manufacturers involved in the championship and the organizers, has been carried out in a series of test sessions all through the year. These tests have been carried out with machinery typically used in each class of competition and riders who represent the most qualified testers.

The consequent evolution derived in terms of product, from a qualitative and outright performance point of view, has already delivered results for roadbike and race consumers, like the introduction of the new Dragon Supercorsa PRO sports tyre and the new 16,5″ slick for race use. The link between production and racing has never been as strong as it is today, so that Pirelli is perhaps the only company that can truly say: “We race what we sell, we sell what we race.”

The 2005 World Superbike season will represent a further tough challenge for the Pirelli tyres; a new season of testing and development of new solutions that will once more improve performance and safety for our customers’ benefit.
