Indonesia aiming for 2017 MotoGP™ Calendar slot

Carmelo Ezpeleta made a stop in Jakarta, Indonesia in between the Australian and Malaysian Grand Prix to agree with the local authorities the inclusion of a Indonesian round in the 2017 MotoGP™ calendar.

Indonesia is a key emerging market for MotoGP™, as proved by the legions of fans making the trip to the Malaysian GP this weekend, but also from a commercial point of view for the likes of the manufacturers, whose factory efforts display references to campaigns specific to this region.

Mr Ezpeleta met with Imam Nahrawi, the Indonesian Minister of Youth & Sports and Tinton Soeprapto, CEO of the Sentul International Circuit, as well as various representatives from the government and circuit to continue with the negotiations.

The presentation of the project master plan in late November and signature of the contract between Dorna Sports and the circuit is the next goal post before setting in motion the project. The next steps towards the organisation of an Indonesian GP at the Sentul International Circuit include renovation works, the FIM homologation process and finally the official inclusion in the 2017 calendar.
