Plans For 2011 AMA Pro Season Finale In Late-October At Auto Club Speedway Canceled

Plans for the proposed addition of a new 2011 season-finale round October 28-30 at Auto Club Speedway, in Fontana, California, have been canceled, according to AMA Pro Racing, but a different season finale event may still be added in September. “At Barber [Motorsports Park] you made it painfully apparent that there was no real interest in a season-ending, late-October event at Fontana,” AMA Pro Racing C.O.O. and managing partner David Atlas announced during rider’s meeting Friday at Mid-Ohio. “So we canceled that. There will be no racing in October.” In response to a follow-up by Roadracingworld.com, Atlas said he was still working on adding a season-ending event but it would be held in September, closer to the final event on the current schedule, September 2-4 at New Jersey Motorsports Park. The official announcement on the status of that event would come either via a press release or at the next AMA Pro Road Racing event, July 22-24 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, Atlas said.
