The 8 Hours of Albacete, second round of the 2010 Qtel FIM Endurance World Championship, will take place this coming weekend during the night from Saturday to Sunday in Spain. This special race has a semi-nocturnal format, with a start given at 6 pm on Saturday. As in the first round at Le Mans, the entry list at Albacete reaches a new record since 40 teams will be on the starting grid. Since Le Mans winner GSR Kawasaki will only participate again at Bol d’Or this season, the 2009 Qtel FIM Endurance World Champion Yamaha Austria Racing Team is virtually leading the championship, ahead of the Suzuki RAC 41 City Bike and the Yamaha France GMT 94 Ipone. Hence, the 8 Hours of Albacete will feel like a not-to-miss opportunity for revenge by several teams. The Suzuki Endurance Racing Team will want to forget their retirement in Le Mans. The Honda BMP Elf 99 Racing, delayed at Le Mans by some electric problems, and the Spanish Yamaha of YMES Folch Endurance Racing Team, who scored Spanish podiums on regular basis, are some of the serious contenders. The same applies to the Honda National Motos who have added the Spanish round to their racing calendar. The BMW Michelin will be missed unfortunately; the official team withdrew from their participation due to some financial constraints and we may see them again at the Bol d’Or event, and hopefully for the whole 2011 championship. In the Superstock class, the Suzuki of Qatar Endurance Racing Team and Team Motor Events are the favourites. But there is no doubt that the BMW Andalucia, the Suzuki Endurance Moto 45 and No Limits Motor teams as well as the Yamaha teams X-One and LTG 57 will give them a run for their money. The qualifying session will take place this afternoon under very mild weather conditions which will last for the whole weekend. Albacete will also host an official delegation from the Bahrain circuit, as a 6 Hours endurance race will be scheduled on the 2011 championship. This penultimate round will be scheduled in November, one week before the 8 Hours of Doha in Qatar, last round of 2010 Qtel FIM Endurance World Championship. The second round of FIM e-Power International Championship, open to electric powered motorcycles, will take place this weekend in Albacete.
