Pretty Hate Machine, Team Doolan/Galindo Win CMRA Endurance Races At Texas World Speedway

The Pretty Hate Machine team of Jesse Davis, Will Gruy, Alan Phillips, and David Tiede brought home the Overall and 500 Classic Endurance wins in the fifth and final round of the Ultra-Lightweight Endurance series, giving them the season championship for the fourth year in a row, while the Nick Doolan/Andy Galindo team brought home the Overall and Middleweight Team 60 wins this past Saturday, October 9, 2016, at Texas World Speedway.

The Central Motorcycle Roadracing Association (CMRA) began its ninth round of the season on Saturday with a 6-Hour Ultra-Lightweight Endurance, Mini and Lightweight Sprints, and Team 60 race, bringing over 10 hours of racing action trackside in College Station, Texas. Beautiful sunny weather in the mid 80’s made for great track conditions on the 1.8 mile short and 2.9 mile long courses.

Keith Hertell grabbed the wins in 500 Superstock and 500 Superbike Novice on his Honda CBR500R. Young Ryan Deutschlander continued his podium sweeps, winning both Aces High Racing – Formula 8 races with his Kawasaki KLX110, and snagged second in the Grom Challenge on a Honda Grom. Cody Kitchens took the wins in both Rainbow Sox Racing – Jr. Motard races on his Kawasaki KLX110.

A total of 39 teams signed up for the 6-Hour Ultra-Lightweight endurance race, with the endurance classes of Road & Track Suspension – 500 Superstock, The Bike Doctors – 500 Classic, Altus Lawton Motorsports – Ultra-Lightweight GP, Road & Track Suspension – E Superstock, and Formula 4 represented, and ran on the 2.9 mile long course. As the teams lined up for the start, the Pretty Hate Machine team on their Honda RVF400 were striving to win the Number One plate again. The start lights went out, and Honda CBR500R Team Von Hertell/Harris Hill riders Jon Bell, John Branch, Keith Hertell, Nick Montonaro, and Manny Segura climbed into the early lead with MiniMotion, also on a Honda CBR500R, and SLOW Kids at Play team of Ashley Azare, Dylan Deutschlander, Nick Doolan, Jay Newton, and Brylin Schrock on a Yamaha YZF-R3 on their tail. Honda CBR500R mounted Lawpup Racing was tagging with Team 19 on a Yamaha FZR400, with Pretty Hate Machine rounding the top six.

Team Von Hertell/Harris Hill held the lead for over two hours, as Pretty Hate Machine clawed their way back into the top three, getting around SLOW Kids at Play, Team 19 riders Phillip Fisher, Dennie Spears, and Mark Tuttle, and Lawpup Racing. Lap times continued to drop, with the race leaders turning 2:00 to sub 2:00 lap times. In Hour 3, the MiniMotion team of Chris Headley, Jeff Hughes, Ryan Max Johnson, and John Orchard took over the lead, but Team Von Hertell/Harris Hill doggedly hung on. As the toll of pit stops started adding laps into the spreads, the race leaders began edging away from the pack. MiniMotion held their lead all the way to Hour 5, when Pretty Hate Machine made their move. They had a lap to make up to catch the race leaders, and with only a second difference in their lap times, it was going to be some work.

With good battles shaped up all the way to the back of the grid, Pretty Hate Machine was contending with lap traffic and chasing down MiniMotion. They stalked them like a panther, and took over the lead and held it going into the final hour of the race. As Pretty Hate Machine continued to bear down, they stretched their lead to two laps over the field as the endurance clock ticked down.

Going into the final stretch, Pretty Hate Machine took the checkers for the overall and The Bike Doctors – 500 Classic Endurance win for the fifth time in a row, turning an incredible 1:57.085 fastest lap and completing 172 laps. MiniMotion crossed the line second overall and first in Road & Track Suspension – 500 Superstock Endurance, with a fastest lap of 1:59.882 and 170 laps. Team Von Hertell/Harris Hill was next, grabbing third overall and second in 500 Superstock Endurance, with a fastest lap of 1:59.144 and turning 169 laps. The Lawpup Racing team of Danny Dominguez, Eric Falt, Britten Geary, Jordan Pence, and Andrew Sukach followed, with fourth overall and third in 500 Superstock Endurance, with a fastest lap of 2:02.581 and turning 168 laps. Team 19 was next, with fifth overall, second in 500 Classic, a fastest time of 2:00.375 and 167 laps. SLOW Kids at Play rounded out the top six, with first in Altus Lawton Motorsports – Ultra-Lightweight GP, with a fastest lap of 2:00.350, and completing 167 laps

The final race of the day was the Race Tire Service/Dunlop – Team 60 race, and the popular LeMans-style start was used to start the grid of 20 teams, with the classes of Heavyweight, Middleweight, and Lightweight represented.

The action started with Craig Montgomery of the Burleson/Montgomery team on his Kawasaki ZX-10R with Nick Doolan of the Doolan/Galindo team riding a Yamaha YZF-R6 on his tail. Meanwhile, the Yamaha YZF-R6 mounted team Cox/Tomlinson was battling with Contreras/Orchard pairing, aboard a Suzuki GSX-R600 and Yamaha YZF-R6, and Yamaha YZF-R1M mounted team of Duncan/Vigneau chased the leaders for third. Doolan got ahead of Montgomery, throwing down the fastest lap of the race with a 1:46.382, and held on to swap point.

As the pit lane opened and the rider swaps started taking place, Andy Galindo of Doolan/Galindo immediately got out on his Yamaha YZF–R6 to hold their spot. During the handoff, John Orchard for the Contreras/Orchard team got away a little better, slipped into second ahead of Cox/Tomlinson. When the checkers dropped at 6 pm, Doolan/Galindo took the overall and Middleweight win, Contreras/Orchard took second overall and second in Middleweight. Cox/Tomlinson crossed next with third overall and third in Middleweight, followed by Duncan/Vigneau for fourth overall and the win in Heavyweight. Martins/Mears crossed next with fifth overall and second in Heavyweight, with McVicker/Wrobel rounding out the top six with sixth overall and third in Heavyweight.
