Pretty Hate Machine Wins Third Time in a Row

The Pretty Hate Machine team of Jesse Davis, Will Gruy, Alan Phillips, and David Tiede brought home the win in 6-Hour Ultra-Lightweight Endurance while the Alonzo Contreras/John Orchard team brought home the overall Team 60 win this past Saturday, May 14, at the Second Annual Westby Classic. The Central Motorcycle Roadracing Association (CMRA) began its fourth round of the season on Saturday with a 6-Hour Ultra-Lightweight Endurance, Mini and Lightweight Sprints, and Team 60 race, bringing over 10 hours of racing action to Hallett Motor Racing Circuit in Hallett, Oklahoma. Breezy weather with temperatures in the 60’s greeted competitors as the lap times stayed fast on the 1.8 mile, 11-turn course.

The Lightweight and Mini sprint grids were up first, with the 500 Superbike/Ultra Lightweight GP Expert/Altus Lawton Motorsports – Ultra Lightweight Novice GP and 500 Superstock/E Superbike Expert/E Superbike Novice robust with over 20 entries each.

Kevin Randall once again took two wins E Superstock Expert and E Superbike Expert with his Kawasaki 250R. 12-year-old Brylin Schrock took the top spots in Bearshark Brand – Formula 5 on a Honda RS65, and Altus Lawton Motorsports – Ultra Lightweight GP on a Yamaha YZF-R3. 13-year-old Isaiah Burleson grabbed his first win in the Honda/Four81 Motos Grom Challenge aboard a Honda Grom.

35 teams signed up for the 6-Hour Ultra Lightweight endurance race, with the endurance classes of Road & Track Suspension – 500 Superstock, The Bike Doctors – 500 Classic, Altus Lawton Motorsports – Ultra Lightweight GP, Road & Track Suspension – E Superstock, and Formula 4 represented. As the teams lined up for the start, three-time champion team Pretty Hate Machine Jesse Davis, Will Gruy, Alan Phillips, and David Tiede on their Honda RVF400 prepared to defend their Number One plate again. The start lights went out, and as the group shook itself out, Pretty Hate Machine was off to the early lead with SLOW Kids at Play team, Team Von Hertell/Harris Hill, and Team K&N Light in the chase.

Pretty Hate Machine continued to hold the lead, the Lawpup Racing team of Danny Dominguez, Eric Falt, Britten Geary, and Jordan Pence worked into the top three aboard a Honda CBR500R during Hour 2, with the Desert Brats team of Zachary Boldwyn, Stephen Guynes, Brad Thomas, Derek Thomas and Greg Wanless also aboard a Honda CBR500R, following suit. They both got around Yamaha YZF-R3 mounted SLOW Kids at Play team of Ashley Azare, Dylan Deutschlander, Jay Newton, and Brylin Schrock, taking over second and third, and held on until Hour 4. With lots of good battling all the way to the back of the pack, there were position changes constantly, as some teams had mechanicals, fixed them, and went back out, while others had some minor tip overs and went back out. In Hour 5, the Aces High Racing team of Luis Aguero Jr., John Deutschlander, Kris Lillegard, Travis Pence, and Barry Reynolds fought their way into the top five on a Honda CBR500R, getting around Honda CBR500R mounted Team Von Hertell/Harris Hill of Jon Bell, John Branch, Keith Hertell, Nick Montonaro, and Manuel Segura and holding them off.

Pretty Hate Machine had stretched their lead to seven laps over the entire field as the final hour wore down, taking the checkers for the overall and The Bike Doctors – 500 Classic Endurance win for the third time in a row. SLOW Kids at Play double down and fought back and crossed the line second overall and took the Altus Lawton Motorsports – Ultra Lightweight GP Endurance win. Lawpup was next, with third overall and the win in Road & Track Suspension – 500 Superstock Endurance. The Desert Brats team came in fourth overall and second in Road & Track Suspension – 500 Superstock Endurance, with Aces High Racing rounding out the top five with fifth overall and third in Road & Track Suspension – 500 Superstock Endurance.

The final race of the day was the Race Tire Service/Dunlop – Team 60 race, with a healthy grid of 17 teams. The popular LeMans-style start was used to start the 17 team grid.

The action started with Cory Burleson, of the Burleson/Montgomery team getting the holeshot on his Suzuki GSX-R600, and holding the lead for four laps, when a high side in turn nine ended his leg. Unhurt, he got his transponder back to his teammate Craig Montgomery for the hand off, but had to wait until the pit window to get back on the track. Meanwhile, Alonzo Contreras of the Contreras/Orchard pairing, also aboard a Suzuki GSX-R600, was battling with Yamaha YZF-R1M mounted Robert Duncan of Duncan/Vigneau for the overall lead. With the classes of Heavyweight, Middleweight, and Lightweight represented, the racing stayed close. As the pit lane opened and the rider swaps started taking place, Craig Montgomery took to the track on his Kawasaki ZX-10 and rode like he was outrunning the devil himself, turning the fastest lap of the race with a blazing 1:17.069 on Lap 20. However, during the handoff, John Orchard for the Contreras/Orchard team got away a little smoother, and gained the overall lead from Duncan/Vigneau, and held it to the end of the race, with a fastest lap of 1:18.771. When the checkers dropped at 6 pm, Contreras/Orchard took the overall and Middleweight win, Duncan/Vigneau took second overall and the Heavyweight win. Orr/Pence/Geary crossed next with third overall and second in Middleweight, followed by Tomlinson/Tomlinson for fourth overall and third in Middleweight. Gurevich/Price rounded out the top five with fifth overall and second in Heavyweight.
