PARKALGAR HONDA’S Sam Lowes is convinced that he can not only win the Buildbase Race of the Year at Mallory Park, he also believes he can take the outright lap record on his 600cc Supersport race bike. “In testing last year I managed to get into the 51’s on my BSS bike,” explains Lowes. “In a dry race on the WSS Parkalgar Honda I think we can go near or under the current lap record. I will do my best to win the race and set the lap record for the Supersport class – and if I can, the outright lap record while I am at it. “My Parkalgar Honda is perfectly suited to Mallory Park. I’ll need to get a good start and then pull away from the Superbikes before we get to the straights, otherwise they will slow me in the corners and use their power to get away on the straights. It’s going to be an interesting race.” The current lap record for Supersport machines is 52.758 by Jay Vincent and that is sure to go if the weather is dry. The Outright Superbike lap record is 51.271 by Tom Sykes and will be a harder challenge for all riders. The lap record applies to the traditional Mallory Park track layout that includes Gerards without the BSB chicane. It means you’ll see bikes tackling the 180 degree corner flat out, the way it should be. More, from a press release issued by Bogdanka PTR Honda: JAMES ELLISON will be campaigning a slick-shod Bogdanka PTR Honda Superstock 1000 race bike at the Buildbase Race of the Year at Mallory Park this weekend instead of his normal Supersport machine. Ellison has tested the Superstock Fireblade at Mallory Park recently in a bid to help regular rider Marcin Walkowiak from Poland and was impressed by how quick it was. In an open class race he has opted for this bike to increase his chances of winning the race overall. The only difference is that when James is racing this weekend the Bogdanka PTR Honda Fireblade will be on full Dunlop slicks to help bring it a step closer to a full Superbike. James said: “The Bogdanka PTR Honda Fireblade is a cracking bike and after testing it numerous times recently I think it maximises my chance of winning The Race of the Year. “A Supersport bike can make the same lap times as a Superbike – or very close to them at Mallory Park – but the way they make their laps is different and I think a good 1000cc machine will be hard to beat.
