Jason Pridmore, 38, is returning to racing full-time with the Phase One Endurance team in the 2008 QTEL Endurance World Championship. “I still want to ride, and I still want to race,” said Pridmore, who raced for Phase One Endurance on and off since 1997 including co-riding to the 2003 FIM Endurance World Championship. “Yeah, I’m going to ride for Phase One, and I’m excited about the chance to go back over there and ride.” In addition to the 2003 FIM Endurance World Championship, Pridmore enjoyed a long and successful career that included winning the AMA 750cc Supersport Championship in 1997 and the AMA Formula Xtreme Championship in 2002. At the end of the 2006 season Pridmore announced his official retirement from full-time professional racing, but even on the day of his retirement Pridmore proved he was still capable of racing competitively by finishing fifth in his final AMA Superbike race, at Mid-Ohio. “I wanted to get back into riding and racing,” said Pridmore. “I had had offers for the last three years to go back to World Endurance, but they’ve always been on Yamahas.” Pridmore, obviously, couldn’t accept the invitations because he was contracted to race Suzukis in America at the time, but in 2007 he was free to consider the offers to ride in World Endurance. “I was asked to ride for Yamaha Austria,” said Pridmore, “and that’s what got me fired up for it. But that fell through. When Phase One caught wind I was interested in riding again, they asked if I was interested.” After checking with American Suzuki, which continues to support Pridmore’s STAR Motorcycle Schools, to see if it had any objection with him racing for the Yamaha-supported Phase One Endurance team, Pridmore committed to the entire 2008 race season. “I’m absolutely over the moon to secure the services of ex-Phase One star Jason Pridmore for the whole championship,” Yamaha Phase One Endurance Team Manager Russell Benney was quoted as saying on his team’s website. Pridmore will be teamed with Warwick Nowland and Glen Richards for the 2008 season, which starts April 19-20 with the Le Mans 24-hour in France. Pridmore said he hopes to soon announce some other racing projects he will be involved with this season.
