After Chris Duran dropped out of the Moto West Grand Prix Motoyard/Arrowstar Insurance Formula One race, Tuned Racing’s Bryce Prince stormed to a dominant win in the 12-lap feature race, taking home a check for $350 and the club’s overall 2014 Championship in the season finale on Sunday, November 16.
Aboard his Dunlop-shod Yamaha YZF-R6, Prince’s best lap of 1:23.995 was only a tick slower than Duran, aboard his BMW S1000RR in cold, gusty conditions that made traction scarce. Duran dropped out after hearing unusual noises from his bike’s engine, explaining later that he decided to play it safe and shut the engine off before it blew up.
And with Prince’s teammate Jason Aguilar forced into the pits with a mechanical problem, Prince cruised to a 38.860 second margin at the line over Ron Cole aboard his Yamaha YZF-R1. Cole, who had a miserable weekend at the last Moto West Grand Prix race event, crashing multiple times, got his head back into the game and scored his best-ever Formula One finish, holding off Fabrice Vilder on his Honda CBR1000RR by less than a second after 30 miles of hard racing.
David Price finished fourth, ahead of Joshua Uebersetzig, Travis Westermeyer, John Sullivan and Ryan Harper. Timothy Chin–the younger brother of former AMA Superbike privateer Mark Chin–Krystyna Kubran and J.C. Gibbs completed the field.
Prince took second in Open Superbike behind Duran, finished ahead of Duran in 600cc Superbike and sealed the club Championship ahead of Gibbs, who wrapped up the season with wins in 750cc Superstock, Vintage Lightweight and 500cc Superstock.
Aguilar won the 600cc Superstock and Open Superstock races, taking the championship in 600cc Superstock. Prince took the titles in 600cc Superbike and Open Superbike, and Price and Aguilar finished 1-2 in the Formula One class standings. To round out a very good year for Tuned Racing, owner Mike Pond finished the year third in the 750cc Superbike and 750cc Superstock classes.
