Millville NJ – Canadian Expert road racer Samuel Proulx guided the University of Sherbrooke (Quebec) student-built prototype eSuperbike to the win in the first round of the Woodcraft sponsored eMotoRacing Varsity Challenge.
Cloudy skies, along with a dry and grippy track made for some great racing at the New Jersey Motorsports Park on Saturday.
It took a few laps for Proulx to separate himself from the Rochester Institute of Technology entry piloted by former IOM rider Karl Smolinski.
Reward for their impressive effort was the first half of the $1000 Woodcraft Technologies Scholarship.
The next round, Sunday, will decide who receives the balance of the scholarship.
The collegiate event was a race within a race. NJMP is the site of the 2016 AHRMA sanctioned eMotoRacing event. NJMP is the seventh of ten tracks in the eMotoRacing 2016 season.
The overall race winner was current points leader Pete Nicolosi of Charleston SC. Nicolosi made a crafty move through lapped traffic in the esses leading onto the front straight to edge defending series champion Arthur Kowitz by a whisker at the line. Bob Berbeco of Indianapolis had an impressive ride rounding out a front trio that swapped the lead several times during the 6 lap event. Berbeco’s third place finish puts him solidly second in points for the 2016 eMotoRacing championship.
