R.A.C.E. SuperSeries Round 2 Report
Daccache Hot in Round 2
The weather was very hot and sunny for the R.A.C.E SuperSeries Round 2 at Shannonville Motorsport Park for Sunday’s Father’s Day finals. Indeed several fathers were celebrated during the weekend as the Walker family tried their best to take home all the trophies while father/son team of Alan and Aaron Burns did their best as well.
In Pro Superbike action, it was reigning number 1 plate holder, Eli Daccache into the early lead with Kingston’s “Jammin” Jeff Williams in hot pursuit. Williams rode hard and with 2 laps in, he squeezed into the lead. Daccache was moved back a bit and it looked like Williams was a sure bet for the win, but Daccache put his head down and was on Williams back wheel by the penultimate lap. While the checkered flag was being aired out, Daccache made a daring pass into the lead for the win with Williams a close second. Best seat in the house to watch the battle belonged to Pedro Sousa who collected the final step of the podium. In fourth was Belleville rider Eros Mukja with his best ride to date. In a close battle for fifth was Marco Sousa.
Tomas Casas kept his win streak alive in the Pro 600 Sportbike race, pushing his Yamaha R6 into a healthy lead for the race win. Early weekend gremlins looked to upset the Peterboro rider’s run to the win but Sunday turned out better than expected, and Casas rode to a problem free win. In second was Cameron Walker, just ahead of “Take Mike for Granite” sponsored Mike Raniowski who himself had a race long battle with Kingston’s Chris Fehr, who had to settle for fifth.
The Superbike Depot Amatuer Superbike race win went to Jared Walker, with a victory over hard charging Eric Althuizen, who took second with Nick Koleros in a well-earned third. Just shy of a podium finish was Todd Ferguson while Jamie Clephan finished in fifth.
The Walker family continued their clean-up of the weekends trophies with Jared Walker taking the win in the Amateur 600 Sportbike race. After an early race battle with Craig Archer, Walker caught a break when Archer was held up by a back-marker, handing him the win. Archer had a brilliant effort but had to settle for runner-up status. Taking the final step of the podium was Todd Ferguson. Fourth place went Matthew Annable while Anthony Dieno took fifth. Honourable mention has to go to Jose Azevedo who had a great outing, finishing just ahead of the young sensation Kayla Hannaford.
Best battle of the weekend went to the Lightweight Superbike riders. Joshua Thomas had a race long battle with Hans van Sluewen, in a rivalry that continues on from last season. This time however, the youngster bested the veteran, with Thomas riding to a narrow victory over van Sluewen. The final step of the podium went to Anthony Dieno with Dave Ferrara finishing in fourth. Justin Marshall had a great come-back ride to finish in fifth.
Tyler Moore continues to improve with a win in the Lightweight Sportsman race, while Mark Rocha remains a threat to take the top step of the podium at every event. This time however Rocha had to settle for second with Matt Simpson handing in a great ride to finish in third. Veteran rider Alan Burns finished in fourth with Connor Campbell taking fifth.
In the Lightweight Twins race, Hans van Sluewen got a bit of revenge however, edging out Joshua Thomas, for the win. Joe Robinson took the final step of the podium with Matt Simpson just behind in fourth. Justin Marshall had another good outing finishing in fifth.
In Sprint Cup action, Jeff Williams spent the entire race flirting with setting a new track record. Williams led from the start to finish with a brilliant ride, taking the checkered flag just ahead of Eli Daccache, but just shy of the record. Cameron Walker had a great ride to finish in third with Pedro Sousa in fourth. Vivian Mathews continues to improve, placing his Yamaha R1 into a solid fifth.
In the finest of father’s day traditions, the Walker boys watched their dad David Walker earn his shot at a trophy. The senior Walker recorded a win as well in the Heavyweight Sportsman class, besting Andy Dickinson at the finish line to take the win. In third was Adrian Dreossi. David Walker also took the win in the Middleweight Sportsman division rounding out a very successful weekend of racing for the Walker family.
In Mopar Expresslane Lightweight Production action it was John Tavener with the win ahead of Matt Simpson. Alan Burns took the final step of the podium while Steve Cole finished in fourth. J.F. Cloutier had a good ride into fifth.
Local hotshoe Mike Raniowski took the win in Middleweight Sportsman action after a race long battle with Chris Fehr. In third was Marco Alessandrini while Hans van Sluewen had to settle for fourth. Jose Azevedo rode to a fifth place finish.
Racing resumes again July 13th to 15th at Shannonville Motorsport Park for round 3 of the R.A.C.E SuperSeries.
