Racer, mechanic, and tuner Phil McDonald died Wednesday, August 5 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

According to his brother, former AMA Pro racer Sam McDonald, Phil McDonald was fixing a leak in the roof of his home when he fell two stories and landed head-first on a concrete patio and brick planter.

Phil McDonald suffered a fractured skull, a brain injury, and numerous other bone fractures. He was 64.

In addition to being a successful AMA Formula One racer, Phil McDonald served as the Crew Chief for Mike Baldwin on Team Honda.

Among McDonald’s many survivors are his father, AMA Hall of Famer and K&N Filters co-founder Norm McDonald; nephew Tyler McDonald, a former AMA Pro road racer; and another nephew current MotoAmerica Twins Cup racer Cooper McDonald.

A celebration of life for Phil McDonald is being tentatively planned for August 15, according to a social media post by his son Calvin McDonald.

We will post more information as it becomes available.
