Racer Turned Vintner: 1960s-1980s Road Racing Star Ron Pierce Opens His Own Winery

Ron Pierce was a star of AMA road racing starting in the 1960s and into the 1980s, making his name not only in AMA 250cc and 750cc and 1000cc Formula classes but also racing in the early days of AMA Superbike. In 1979, for example, Pierce earned $30,000 at Daytona when he won the AMA Superbike race on a Yoshimura Suzuki GS1000 and also finished second in the Daytona 200, riding a Yamaha OW31 version of the TZ750 four-cylinder, two-stroke F1 racebike. 

Pierce, who now owns and operates a construction business in Bakersfield, California, planted a vineyard at his ranch about three years ago and his Breckenridge Hills Vineyards is now offering Sauvignon Blanc, Melange Blanc, and Bordure Rouge wines.
