The rains descended on the Nürburgring just before the Suzuki GSX-R Cup riders began their final qualifying session, causing a flurry of activity as the teams all changed to wet weather tyres. The track was soaking wet throughout the session and no rider was able to improve on their lap times or get anywhere near Ismael Ortega’s lap from yesterday, so the Spaniard stays on pole for tomorrow’s nine lap race. Alongside Ortega on the front row will be Austrian Roland Resch, German Tobias Gieseler and ‘wild card’ Jeremy McWilliams. Ismael Ortega – Pole Just like yesterday, today was very important because we had some wet weather practice and this may prove vital if the weather is bad tomorrow. This afternoon allowed us to get a good wet weather set-up and find out what the track is like to ride in the wet. The grip is OK in the wet, though I did get thrown out of the saddle at one stage. Fortunately, I managed to stay on the bike and not crash. We found what we think is a good wet set-up, but we didn’t have enough time to test it properly. I’m happy to be on pole and I want to make a good start because I know that turn one is going to be very busy!
