FIRST PERSON/OPINION: Via e-mail: Let me start by saying my husband I have subscribed to your magazine (and will continue to) for years. Thanks for a great read every month! As the wife of a road racer, (James O. Ray, CCS Ex #42), and a diehard fan of all things motorcycle related, I, like many others, was deeply affected by the death of Marco Simoncelli. I always looked forward to watching him race and seeing what he would try next. Seeing his life (albeit full) cut so short was very tragic. Thankfully, with the advancement of protective gear and other safety measures, this is not something that we have to deal with very often (although any at all is too many). I found myself wanting to memorialize “Super Sic” in some way. I thought a Sic decal on my back windshield next to my Peter Lenz decal would be great, so I got in touch with my longtime friend, former Marine, as well as a road racer (OMRRA Ex #33) Shawn McKnight. Shawn is the owner/operator of Redline Vinyl Graphics & Screen Printing. He’s done a lot of work for us over the years and has never disappointed. I asked him if he’d be willing to make a few memorial stickers for me, my husband, and friends that I knew would also be interested. In true Shawn McKnight form (super generous and generally over the top) he designed and sent me about 80 decals in two different color formats (black background & carbon fiber background). He then decided on another design and sent me 80 more! I told him he should sell them because surely people would by them, but he was not at all interested in profiting off of someone’s death. That got me thinking: What if we sold them and donated 100% of the proceeds to a charity near and dear to all of our hearts, the Roadracing World Action Fund? I have seen air fence, on many occasions, prevent serious injury of road racers. With my husband and many friends or extended “family” racing, I’m comforted by knowing that such a thing exists. So, in an effort to avoid eBay fees, I have decided to use Paypal. Making it a “gift” should cancel out any fee. I’m asking $3.00 per sticker. Feel free to give more as it will all go directly to the Roadracing World Action Fund. Here is the Paypal account to order: [email protected]. See below for pictures of the 3 decals available. I’m hoping that you can help get the word out about it so I can get these sold and get the donation to you as soon as possible. Thanks again for all the years of your great publication! Respectfully, Kasey Ray Jacksonville, North Carolina
