12-Year-Old Texan Cody Kitchens Receives Invite to Red Bull Rookies Cup selection in Spain

Cypress, Texas (September 17, 2018) – Riding Racing Youth Development, LLC is excited to announce that 12-year-old road racer, Cody Kitchens has been invited to participate in the tryout competition of the exclusive Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup selection event at Circuito Guadix nestled in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada near Granada, Spain. The Rookies Cup selection will take place from October 2nd to the 4th 2018.

Kitchens is one of the youngest to be invited with the competition ranging from 12 to 16 years of age. Riders from all points around the globe will be vying for a spot on the 2019 Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup roster. Cody has been training in various disciplines including motard, dirt track, mini and sprint road racing along with endurance races. Since Cody will be one of the youngest riders invited to the Red Bulls Rookies Cup selection event in 2018, he is welcoming the challenges he faces. Cody mentioned “the Circuito Guadix looks to be a great place for the Rookies Cup event. I’m excited to meet with the Red Bull Rookies Cup staff and for the opportunity to ride with some of the world’s best amateur road racers.”

Kitchens hails from the great Lone Star state and the CMRA club (est. CRRC 1974). Many in the world are familiar with the great tracks of Texas and Oklahoma producing several world and U.S. champions. Those tracks and competition are credited by some in honing skills for riders such as Freddie Spencer, Sam McDonald, Jamie James, Britt Turkington, Doug Polen, Kevin Schwantz, Michael Martin, Colin Edwards, Ben Spies, and several others. Presently Cody is riding three different bikes including two sprint bikes: an 65cc motard, and an RS Chassis 100cc. He is also racing as part of a three-rider team on a Yamaha R3. Kitchens resume includes multiple CMRA and Texas Mini GP championships. Cody is currently the lead rider on his CMRA endurance team on the R3.

The Rookies Cup will enter its 13th year in 2019. Going in 2018, 171 riders from 34 different nations have been involved. By the end of this year, there will have been 144 races. Just as importantly, Rookie Cup riders have gone on to win 69 Grand Prix’s on their way to five (5) World Championships. In total, they have stood on a Grand Prix podium 204 times.

2018 finishes the sixth season with the Moto3 specification KTM RC 250 R 4-stroke. The switch came in 2013 when the 2-stroke KTM RC 125 that had powered the Rookies for the first 6 seasons was replaced by the 250 4-stroke.
