World Champion Jorge Lorenzo Eyes The Corkscrew MONTEREY, Calif., July 13, 2011 “” After this weekend’s race in Germany, the MotoGP World Championship returns to the Monterey Peninsula for the Red Bull United States Grand Prix. In just eight days, the field of international riders led by points leaders Casey Stoner (Australia), Jorge Lorenzo (Spain) and Andrea Dovizioso (Italy) descend on one of the most technically-demanding tracks on the MotoGP World Championship schedule “” Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. For Americans Nicky Hayden (5th), Ben Spies (6th) and Colin Edwards (9th) the July 22-24 Red Bull United States Grand Prix is a chance to tighten the standings on their home turf. But first, they must unseat defending event and World Champion Jorge Lorenzo of the Yamaha Factory Team. According to Lorenzo, he’s ready to defend his title. “Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca is one of the most special tracks in the world,” Lorenzo says. “My first years of MotoGP at the raceway were difficult and I had some serious crashes. But, finally, last year I had my first victory on this great track. I am really looking forward to riding again in California and diving my Yamaha YZR-M1 into the Corkscrew.” Yamaha will celebrate its 50th anniversary in Grand Prix racing with special red and white livery. Coincidently, the only other time this livery appeared, Ben Spies rode to his first MotoGP victory in Assen, Netherlands. For tickets, visit www.MazdaRaceway.com.
