Results are in from the 2011 Red Flag Fund Auction August 23, 2011 Waterford, Wisconsin Last weekend, at the CCS event at Blackhawk farms Raceway in South Beloit, IL, the Red Flag Fund held its annual live auction. Though the turnout for the event was lighter than hoped, the Fund raised an nice sum of $7000. Brian McLaughlin, President of the Red Flag Fund said, “We had some very cool items as well as some whacky stuff. Overall, the quality of the items donated was stellar. In addition to the auction, we also had a bake sale, a 50/50 raffle, beer sales, and a dinner. As always Red Flag Fund apparel was available for purchase all day.” Brian continued, “Luckily the weather for the event itself was good. Earlier in the day we had a storm roll through and many lost canopies, including the Fund. We lost the canopy off the RV and one of our QuickShades was damaged. The storm didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits and the bidding during the auction was aggressive.” Probably the most fun item that went up for auction was a pair of bike shorts belonging to multi National Championship winning Ed Key. The shorts were framed with a notarized letter of authenticity. Ed has warn these shorts for a period spanning 23 years, so they are almost as legendary as he is. They fetched a nice $400. Sock Monkey made an appearance once again, and folks could have their photo taken with it for a small donation. Many thanks to Blackhawk Farms Raceway, Kathleen Casey, Motovid.com, Mark Bernard for use of the PA system, Mark Stiles: auctioneer extraordinaire, Kathleen McLaughlin, Jane Stiles, Alexa Krueger, and Chris Stein for all of their hard work. Thank you to everyone who donated an item or items, all of those who bid and to those who generously opened their wallets. It is only with your support that we can in turn help others. The Red Flag Fund uses the annual auction to help seriously injured racers throughout the season. If you would like to send a donation, visit www.redflagfund.org.
