Yannick GUERRA, Spain (MORIWAKI), 1:50.915 More, from a press release issued by Interwetten Moto2 Team: INTERWETTEN MORIWAKI Moto2 TEAM – Free practice in Indy makes Lüthi confident Tom Lüthi finished the first free practice of the U.S. Grand Prix in Indianapolis on 15th position after the Interwetten Moriwaki Moto2 Team had done some important set up work on the bike. Lüthi had his difficulties with the choice of the tyres, but after another change of tyre in the last third of the free practice session the lap times of the 23 year old Swiss steadily improved and he could catch up some positions at the end. The youngster form Bern is positive about this weekend, as the conditions in Indianapolis and the weather are great. After important set up work was done today, the concentration can be on the performance. Tom Lüthi, 15 – 1’47.582: “The practice went well. Of course you wont believe this when you see the position we finished in and we are not satisfied with this position neither, but we really did some very good steps forward today with the set up and with this result and the good weather in Indianapolis I am positive about the weekend.” Terrell Thien, Team Manager: “The practice started off slowly. We chose a tyre, which did not suit the situation and had to change it again. After that, all went well and Tom could improve continuously. We are satisfied and confident, that this weekend will be better than some of the ones before.” More, from a press release issued by Marc VDS Racing Team: REDDING TOPS TIMESHEET IN INDY FREE PRACTICE Scott Redding was the fastest rider on track during today’s opening free practice session at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, edging out current Moto2 championship leader, Toni Elias, to claim the top spot on the timesheet. Hector Faubel finished 22nd fastest today, but is confident of improvement tomorrow as track conditions continue to improve. Redding made his first appearance at the top of the timesheet this afternoon with just 15 minutes left on the clock, demoting reigning 125cc World Champion, Julian Simon, to second place with a lap time just over one tenth of a second faster than the Spaniard. The 17-year-old Briton’s hold on the top spot was only temporary, however, as he was quickly pushed back to third place by Simone Corsi and Andrea Iannone. With just seconds left to run, Redding managed to improve his lap time once again to reclaim his place at the top of the timesheet, a position he held until the chequered flag was unfurled to end the opening practice session. Faubel declared himself happy with progress today, after using this afternoon’s 60-minute practice session to confirm the set-up of his Suter MMX Moto2 machine and to evaluate the two different tyre options from Dunlop. The 27-year-old Spaniard is confident of improvements during tomorrow’s practice and qualifying sessions, as track conditions improve with more track time. Scott Redding #45: 1st – 1’46.728 “I guess you could say that we had a good day today. The bike felt good from the start and the only issue was the track, which was a bit dirty and unpredictable in terms of grip. The white lines were also a bit dodgy, with the bike snapping sideways on me a couple of times when I ran over them. It was a good session, because I was out on my own for most of the time and able to try different lines through a lot of the corners. We tried a few things on the bike early on, before heading out towards the end of the session to set a fast time. The lap time came pretty easy and I felt really comfortable on the bike, so it looks good for this weekend. Now we need to focus on qualifying, where we have to continue to run at the front of the field.” Hector Faubel #55: 22nd – 1’47.913 “The basic set-up of the bike is good, which we confirmed early in the session. Then we tried a couple of changes and also ran both tyres to see which option works best around this track. The track is still a bit dirty, which made it difficult to work on refining the suspension settings today, but that will improve tomorrow as all classes get more time on the track and start to clean it up. Once the track conditions improve I’m confident we can make some significant improvements to the lap time during practice and qualifying tomorrow.” Michael Bartholemy: Team Manager “I’m happy, because it was a good session for both Scott and Hector today. Obviously Scott felt comfortable on the bike straight away and was pushing hard throughout the session. The fact that he was on his own meant he was able to try different lines and that will stand him in good stead for the race on Sunday. He was pretty consistent with his lap times, with his best lap, and the fastest of the session, coming right at the end. Hector was also consistent today; working mainly on evaluating the two tyre options we have this weekend. His sector times look good and, once track conditions improve tomorrow, I’m sure his lap times will come down significantly. If both riders can carry this momentum into qualifying tomorrow afternoon then there’s every chance we could achieve our best qualifying performance of the season so far.” More, from a press release issued by JiR Moto2 Team: A good start for Team JiR’s US adventure: Simone Corsi ends the first session of free practice with a best lap of 1’46″885, that gives him the 4th position being only 0.157s from the fastest rider Englishman Scott Redding. The Roman rider stayed within top 5 for the whole session and only in the last minutes of the 45 did he slip down the order a little. Either way, it’s a good start that gives good hope for tomorrow’s practice and qualifying. There was progress also for Yusuke Teshima, who is in racing for his first time in Indianapolis and therefore needs some time to find the best lines and confidence with the machine. He ends up in 30th position with a time of 1’48″543. Tomorrow he will continue the MotoBI development work, testing a new frame and new aerodynamics solutions.
