USGPRU Teen Challenge Winners and Race Results

Odenton, MD. The USGPRU powered by AlwaysOnline.net held the second West coast regional event at Portland International Raceway Sunday. Featured this weekend was the coveted USGPRU Teen Challenge where the top placing teenagers from both the 125GP and 250GP events were presented with airfare, hotel, and admission to the RedBull US Grand Prix at Laguna Seca being held on July 08-10 2005. This year’s winners were 15 yr old Tyler Reiswig in the 125GP and 16 yr old Bradley Adams in the 250GP, with his dad (and former AMA and FUSA Pro) Curtis Adams tuning his Yamaha TZ250.

Reiswig and Will Gruy led the field with a half second gap between them and the rest of the 125GP field. A fierce six-way battle for 3rd place ensued with new riders Tommy Aquino, Ryan Ferris, and US GP Veterans Ben Solis and Carlos Neves. Debra Kuick got punted off course in turn 4 but managed to re-enter the race and finish 2 laps down. Britt Arechiga 4 days out of surgery to plate a broken collarbone was part of the lead group until mechanical problems forced early retirement. Another tight battle raged on for 8th place between local Mike McDonough and Californians Jeff Lim and Phil Krenn.

Will Morton and Jeff Hanford led the 250GP with Vincent Rolleri and Patrick Dowd in tow. Hanford crashed out early in the race handing a solid 2nd place to Rolleri until he was black flagged for exceeding the noise limit on the 6th lap. “It’s really disappointing,” Rolleri said, “that there was no provision to allow a rider to adjust for such an infraction. Who knew?” Aside from Rolleri’s disappointment, the 250GP was haunted with mechanicals, crashes, and lost lap timers. Alex White demonstrated a repeat performance from the Las Vegas round in April with timer problems which again had him gridded towards the back. As in Vegas, White let his riding ability do his talking with an impressive 4th place finish.

TEAM BMS FACTORY RACING SWEEPS PORTLAND

(Portland, Oregon – June 27, 2005) Team BMS Factory Racing concluded another successful weekend in the OMRRA pocketbike races, with Terry “TJ” Hart winning both the Junior Production and Junior GP Open mains. His teammates Devon McDonough and Bennie Taylor stood on the podium alongside him each finish. In Junior Novice, Peter Lenz won his first race at the Portland International Raceway (PIR) pocketbike track. Novice teammate Colton Evans finished a solid third.

After successfully completing his fourth junior class sweep of the season, the always kind worded TJ (age 10) had this to say, “I want to thank Smokin Pocketbikes, my sponsors, and my Dad for working on my bike. And to Bennie and Devon for giving me a good race.”

Recovering nicely after early season difficulty, Devon (age 9) found his groove and took two strong second place finishes. “My bike was running good. It’s nice to be right up with TJ.”

Bennie (age 8) picked up flu like symptoms Saturday evening. Sunday after a power nap he felt better and insisted on running his races. Though he wasn’t his normal smiley self, he was able to bring his bike in third.

A first year Novice, Peter (age 8) was excited to take his first pocketbike win. “It was a good race. I like my new bike. TJ showed me a good line through those bumps up there. I’m fast on that track, I want to come back to PIR.”

Colton (age 11) was riding with bruised thighs from cross training on his motocross bike earlier that weekend. Unfortunately the tight PIR track made for a not so comfortable ride through the backside eases. Colton soldiered on to take the final spot on the podium.

The boys had fun this eventful weekend despite some illness and physical discomfort, and turned in excellent results. Team BMS Factory Racing races again on July 15-17 at Portland International Raceway.
