The last-minute repairs made to several turns on the Miller Motorsports Park (MMP) road course received a stamp of approval from several top AMA riders who participated in a promoter practice day at the track Wednesday. The track needed the repairs after the new surface recently laid on the western half of the course was pulled up in several areas by cars competing in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) event May 16-18. MMP officials consulted asphalt experts who recommended a product called “Track Bond” be used to temporarily repair the damaged sections of asphalt. Due to rain, the repairs were not made until Tuesday. The repairs were then tested with race-prepared cars and motorcycles on Tuesday, but their real test came Wednesday when dozens of AMA racers hit the track. “The grip’s pretty good,” in the repaired sections, said Jordan Suzuki’s Geoff May. “I think the grip might be better on the sealer than the regular asphalt. When I have my knee down on the regular asphalt my knee puck slides like it’s on a garage floor. When it’s sliding on the sealer I can actually hear it scraping like it has some grit to it.” “It’s fine,” said Erion Racing Honda’s Josh Hayes. “It’s got good grip. It might have some waves in it. At least, it looks like it has some waves to it and my bike moves around a little when I’m on it. But I know it has more grip because I stuck my knee down on it and it almost ripped me off the bike.”
