Originally finishing third in class, the No. 8 Bruce Rossmeyer’s Daytona Racing Buell 1125R of Sean Higbee and Dan Bilansky was elevated to the second step of the SuperSport Twins podium after the No. 75 Touring Sport Ducati 848 of Doug Polen and Ryan Gordon was disqualified for using a non-homologated wheel. The DQ also elevated the No. 7 Richie Morris Racing 1125R ridden by Clint Brotz and Bryan Bemisderfer to third place in the final class standings. The reposition helped ease the sting of a mid-race pitstop problem for the No. 8, which lost four laps to the overall leading Aprilia USA/Lloyd Brothers Motorsports Aprilia Tuono 1000R of Ty Howard and Mike Himmelsbach when their Buell failed to restart after fueling on Lap 36 due to a dead battery. “It was nice to come back. We were down quite a ways after we got hung up in the pits. I threw my head down after that to see how strong the bike could be,” said Higbee. “I thank the crew and I’m really happy with the Buell 1125R.” In the GrandSport Twins class, the No. 70 James Gang/Hoban Brothers Racing Buell XB12R sponsored by H-D/Buell of Appleton and ridden by Jeff Johnson and Walt Sipp was elevated to second place after the winning No. 69 Rights for Bikers Ducati PS1000LE of Justin Filice and Rodolfo Ramirez was disqualified after failing to complete a mandatory post-race dyno inspection. The second place finish moves the No. 70 into a close second in the GST standings with 184 points, just 2 points behind the leading No. 77 Touring Sport Ducati, setting up seasonending clash at the MOTO-ST Daytona 8 Hour race in October. “I really have to give credit to our team,” said Johnson. “They fixed a flat front tire and a broken rear shock during the race and we hung in there to grab our ninth straight MOTO-ST podium finish. We’ll be gunning for the win and the championship at Daytona.” To learn more about Buell motorcycles, visit your local Buell dealer today and experience the pure streetfighter attitude, style and performance only found on board a Buell.
