Beach put on a display of speed and skill in a totally dominant win at the 2.4 mile Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in the first of two AMA Pro SuperSport races here at the Honda Super Cycle Weekend Presented by Dunlop Tire. After a flawless start, Beach took his fourth SuperSport win of the season by the largest margin of victory seen this year, 20.126 seconds. — Live Timing Begins Again Sunday Morning at 8:30 a.m. ET — Finishing second was Beach’s Rockwall Performance Yamaha teammate Cameron Beaubier who battled back from fourth place in the early stages of the race. Once he worked his way up to second, he settled in to a steady pace because he knew Beach was gone. Beaubier showed his speed by steadily running down the surprising Dustin Dominguez and stayed in touch with Beach in the East Division SuperSport Young Gun championship. Dominguez rejoined AMA Pro SuperSport for the first time in 2010. Dominguez had posted a SuperSport win last year at Auto Club Speedway and until this weekend had been riding his Kawasaki in his home state of Oklahoma and Texas in some club road races. Behind the front three there was racing galore. Front row starters Joey Pascarella on his DNA Energy Drink Yamaha and Huntley Nash riding a LTD Racing Yamaha were in the middle of numerous battles all day long with Pascarella suffering a slow start but foughting back gamely and adding to his West Division leading points total with a seventh place finish. Nash ran second at the start but was run down by Dominguez and then Nash engaged in a number of battles, first with his LTD Racing Yamaha teammate Tomas Puerta, then with James Rispoli on his ANT-Racing.com Suzuki, as well as Beaubier. Puerta took fourth and continues his incredible run of top five finishes. Rispoli had a great day too, mixing it up with the front runners again. Infineon winner Elena Myers on her Lucas Oil Roadracingworld.com Suzuki had another solid day as she battled with Travis Wyman (Yamaha), Rispoli and then with Pascarella. Myers took a fighting eighth place after starting tenth. She trails only Pascarella in the West Division Young Gun points race. Travis Wyman finished ninth as he and his brother both competed in the SuperSport race today. Travis is also riding with his other brother Kyle in the AMA Pro Vance & Hines XR1200 Series race this weekend at Mid-Ohio. Tenth was Eric Stump, another rider who is racing in the Vance & Hines XR1200 Series as well. Stump was once again riding his Yamaha to good effect. More, from a press release issued by LTD Racing: PUERTA CONTINUES TOP FIVE STREAK FOR LTD RACING AT MID-OHIO Lexington, OH (July 17, 2010) Tomas Puerta earned fourth and Huntley Nash took sixth in the opening AMA Pro SuperSport race at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on Saturday. Sam Nash retired from the race due to his hand injury. The first laps were eventful as Tomas made a couple of mistakes and was bumped by other riders, but the Colombian quickly rebounded to charge forward in the extreme heat. “I was going for the podium but I couldn’t get it this time. I bumped with (Miles) Thornton and (Dustin) Dominguez early and I was lucky to stay up. I was able to make up some positions and catch up with Huntley but I couldn’t pass for a few laps. Eventually I got by him, but there was not enough laps left to move up and fight for third and the podium. It was a very hot race, too. Maybe tomorrow!” Puerta is the only rider in AMA Pro SuperSport to finish fifth or better in each race this season. The consistent Colombian has put together a solid season and is third in East points. “Tomy is just one really consistent rider,” said LTD Racing’s Director of Competition Gary Medley. “You can always count on him to run in the top five. My feeling is he will continue to find more speed and become even more familiar with the very limits of what the bike can do.” Nash had a frustrating race. He was unable to charge at full potential due to a tire chatter problem, but that did not stop him from putting in a strong performance that saw him get a good start and defend his position in the running order throughout the race. That was a tough proposition in a 17-lap contest that featured the combined East and West divisions of AMA Pro SuperSport and the biggest field of the year. Nash ran much of the race in fourth place but finished sixth and picked up valuable points. “I got an okay start but didn’t get a good start as I wanted and wasn’t able to close off (eventual winner) J.D Beach and take the lead off the line. After that, I thought I could stick with him. But it didn’t take very long before he was gone and I had bad front-end chatter. The chatter got worse as the race went on. After J.D got away, I tried to ride my own race but it was tough. I couldn’t do anything but try to ride around the chatter. I did the best I could and hopefully tomorrow will be a better race. It was frustrating.” Sam Nash retired from the race with two laps to go, his broken right hand causing him issues. “It started out okay, but my hand is still injured and it was causing me to lose concentration. I’m a competitive person and it was frustrating for me out there. Then the pain got even worse and I pulled in.” Despite having two riders in the top six, the team wanted more from the first Mid-Ohio race. With four wins and 13 podiums this season, the team anticipates the very best possible results. “The race today wasn’t what we were expecting. We had some technical issues and we have to address them,” said Medley. “Huntley tried as hard as he could and Tomy did his part, too. We’re not satisfied unless our riders are at the very front so we’ll work hard tonight and see what happens tomorrow.” The second Mid-Ohio AMA Pro SuperSport race of the weekend begins at 12:30 local time on Sunday.
