Rider Injury Update From The Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix

Hector Barbera, who highsided in MotoGP Free Practice One on Friday, suffered three broken vertebrae. He was treated and released at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis and is currently traveling back to his home in Spain for further medical examination. Australian Jack Miller crashed during Moto3 qualifying Saturday and suffered a broken left collarbone, ruling him out of Sunday’s race. Hector Faubel also crashed during Moto3 qualifying. The Spaniard suffered contusions to his chest, abdomen and arms and is being held overnight for observation at Methodist Hospital. He has not yet been ruled out of Sunday’s race. Danny Webb crashed during Moto3 qualifying and suffered two sprained wrists, but he is still eligible to race on Sunday. Alex Marquez crashed three times during the sole Moto3 qualifying session. In the final crash he suffered a sprained left ankle that required medical attention and caused a red flag that ended the session prematurely. Casey Stoner suffered a big highside crash on his fourth lap of MotoGP qualifying. The reigning World Champion suffered small fractures to bones in his right ankle, according to Dorna. He is undergoing further examination at Methodist Hospital, according to a release issued by Repsol Honda, which has not confirmed any bone fractures, only suspected ligament damage. Ben Spies also highsided during MotoGP qualifying and suffered bruising to his right shoulder and elbow and suspected torn ligaments in the shoulder, according to a quote attributed to Spies in Yamaha’s official post-qualifying press release. Nicky Hayden was another victim of a highside crash at Turn 13. Hayden was knocked unconscious and suffered a concussion as well as bone fractures in his right hand. Ducati has announced that Hayden will not race in the Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix on Sunday.
