Rider Safety Disregarded: New Steel Barriers Installed In Impact Zones At Miller Motorsports Park

© 2013, Roadracing World Publishing, Inc.

Miller Motorsports Park has installed new steel barriers and a tire wall outside the Witchcraft corner on the perimeter course used by AMA Pro Superbike, close to the track surface. Installation of the steel barriers is related to the construction of a new motocross track inside the road course. The barrier positioning is similar to that seen outside Turn Five at Sonoma Raceway, being late in the corner, but is closer to the racing surface. It’s near where Martin Cardenas lowsided in 2011 and is located where Shane Turpin ran off the track during a wet World Superbike race in 2012. Additional steel barriers have been installed outside the Faster corner on the Full Course and East Course used for UtahSBA events, with a motocross whoop section behind the barriers. More information on the situation will be posted as it becomes available.
